November 1, 2024

In 2020, North Carolina saw a record 3.63 million early in-person voters. This year, 3.71 million voted early in-person.

50 Million Americans Have Already Voted

October 30, 2024

Over 50 million Americans have voted, according to University of Florida's early-vote tracker. A total of about 100 million people voted early in 2020. Aboout 39% of those voters are registered Democrats and 36% are registered Republicans.

Would Harris' Presidency Differ From Biden's? Would Trump's Second Term Differ From His First?

October 29, 2024

Some have argued that a Harris presidency would be a continuation of Biden's, while others highlighted her policy differences—either as positive or as more extreme than Biden. For Trump, some think awarding him a second term would allow him to showcase his foreign policy. Others argue that a second term opens the door for authoritarianism, especially after many of his former employees have publicly refused to work in a second Trump administration.

Voter Rolls in Pennsylvania and Virginia

October 28, 2024

Lancaster County, PA, recently reported 2,500 suspected fraudulent voter registrations linked to one or two organizations canvassing efforts. Meanwhile, Virginia appeals to the Supreme Court to purge their voter rolls of 1,600 suspected noncitizens.

Harris and Trump in a Dead Heat

October 25, 2024

With less than two weeks until election day, the last New York Times (Lean Left bias)/Siena College poll has Vice President Harris and former President Trump tied at 48% of the popular vote each. The latest Wall Street Journal (Center bias) poll has Trump leading Harris 47% to 45%. The Economist (Lean Left) puts Harris leading 49% to 47%. Among outlets that run their own polling, some put Trump ahead and others put Harris ahead, but all emphasized the results are within a margin of error. In theory, the candidates could tie with 269 electoral college votes each, though that has never happened in the country's history. In the event of a tie, new members of the House of Representatives would be sworn in and vote on a candidate. Each state, regardless of the size of their delegation, would get one vote.

North Carolina and Georgia See Record Voter Turnout

October 21, 2024

North Carolina hit a record turnout of over 353,000 ballots on the first day of early voting. For context, Hurricane Helene resulted in significant damage or accessibility issues to 10 early voting sites in western North Carolina, but 90% of the sites were up and running. Georgia also had a record turnout, with 1.4 million voters casting ballots as of Monday morning, accounting for 20% of Georgia's active voters. In 2020, President Biden beat former President Trump by only 11,000 votes in Georgia.

Evidence in Trump's Election Interference Case Unsealed

October 18, 2024

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ordered special counsel Jack Smith’s evidence arguing Donald Trump is not immune from criminal prosecution in his federal election interference case to be unsealed. The nearly 1,900 pages of evidence were made public on Friday, though much of it was redacted. Most of the documents included, such as Trump's social media posts, excerpts from former Vice President Mike Pence's book, and transcripts from the Jan. 6 committee, were already public information.
