The Washington Times’ AllSides Media Bias Rating™ was rated on the border of Center and Lean Right by hundreds of Americans across the political spectrum in our August 2022 Blind Bias Survey. Following an Editorial Review, which allows an AllSides panel to review a larger swath of content, AllSides decided to keep The Washington Times’ rating as Lean Right.
On a scale of -9 to +9 with 0 representing Center, respondents on average rated The Washington Times as 1.03, putting it on the border of Center and Lean Right. In the survey, people on the right and people in the center were more likely to see The Washington Times as having a Center bias; people on the left saw it as Lean Right.

The Washington Times Rated Lean Right in Editorial Review
The Blind Bias Survey results, which were on the border of two bias categories, triggered a Small Group Editorial Review by an AllSides panel of people on the left, center, and right. Editorial Reviews allow the panel to assess much more content from a media outlet than a Blind Bias Survey does. The panel decided Lean Right is still the best rating for The Washington Times.
While reviewers on the left, right, and center noted balanced coverage on several stories, they also noted several articles that favored GOP politicians and that the self-description of the outlet conveyed conservative values (read more).
Breaking Down The Washington Times Blind Bias Survey Results
On average, respondents who self-reported being Left and Lean Left rated the Washington Times as Lean Right, while respondents who are Center and on the right (Right, Lean Right) rated it as Center.
Democrats rated the Washington Times as Lean Right, on average, while Independents and Republicans rated it as Center.
A total of 853 people from across the political spectrum rated the bias of the Washington Times. When normalized, 28% of respondents rated The Washington Times as left of center (8% Left, 20% Lean Left), 18% rated it as in the exact center, and 54% rated it as right of center (18% Right, 36% Lean Right).
