Donald Trump and J.D. Vance were officially sworn in as the 47th president and vice president of the United States in Washington, D.C. Monday. During his first day in office, President Trump began signing executive orders en masse, including declaring a state of emergency at the southern border, pardoning the January 6 rioters, and culling DEI initiatives.
The orders drew praise, ire, and lawsuits. Democratic cities and states have already begun a lawsuit to overturn Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship.
Voices on the left called the orders unconstitutional and immoral. Voices on the Right praised the president’s actions, especially regarding executive orders that reversed Biden’s policies.
The Post Millennial (Right Bias) published an article saying, “After months of vows and promises, President Donald Trump put his big black sharpie to dozens and dozens of orders pushing the country away from Biden and into what he's called the ‘golden age’ of America. As he sat in the Oval Office… he spoke to reporters from the White House press corps offering a level of transparency to the workings of the executive office that has not been seen during these past four years.”
A writer for Vox (Left bias) said, “Ever since Donald Trump declared he’d act like a dictator on Day 1 during his presidential campaign, there have been real concerns that he’d be true to his word — that he’d take a series of unilateral actions that threaten the integrity of American democracy. With Trump’s Inauguration Day in the rearview mirror, we’re in a position to assess just how justified those fears were.”
A writer for WorldNetDaily (Right Bias) wrote, “Throughout his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump promised to affirm the unique distinctions of the two sexes, male and female, and reverse the spread of gender ideology that was pushed during the Biden administration. Trump kept that promise Monday by signing an executive order (EO)... which defends the integrity of the sexes by mandating the federal government apply ‘clear and accurate language.’"
Daily Kos (Left bias) published an article arguing, “President Biden tried to help us with a basic right of any democracy. The right to participate in the choosing of government representatives, ballot measures, and constitutional amendments. Trump and the Republicans want to take that away. Rescinding Biden's Executive Order is just a first step.”
