Former Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Thursday delivered his final remarks on the House floor during his final day in Washington, D.C., as a member of Congress.
After fellow lawmakers from the California delegation praised McCarthy's leadership, the former speaker thanked constituents and his colleagues for his time in office, adding that he "loved every single day."
"I will be departing, but that doesn't mean I'll stop serving," McCarthy said.
McCarthy also stood by his decision to pass a short-term funding measure in September, which he said he knew would prompt the introduction of a motion to vacate measure by Florida. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., which led to his ouster, marking the first removal of a speaker in U.S. history.
