Archaeological measures of inequality typically involve using metrics to quantify the extent and shape of the variability of some proxy variable at the site level. Inequality, however, is intrinsically dependent on the social cohort of reference, and as such, metrics are expected to change depending on the scale of aggregation of the proxy variable. Here, we examine the residential unit size disparity of the GINI Project Database across multiple scales of aggregation, introducing statistical methods quantifying inequalities within and between settlements.
