Social media users are sharing a tweet allegedly posted by Republican U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene about the 4th of July. But there is no evidence that she ever posted the tweet.
The tweet reads: “246 years ago Jesus Christ performed his miracle of making a single days worth of bullets last 8 days, allowing The Continental Army (Americans Woot!) to defeat the Socialist Mexicans and the Liberal British (who were also Muslim). That’s why I give thanks this 4th of July.”
The tweet does not exist on Greene’s Twitter page (twitter.com/RepMTG) or on Politwoops, a database which tracks deleted tweets from officials (here).
A Google search of the quote reveals that it only appears on meme pages and fact checks (here).
One tweet regarding the alleged quote was posted on July 4, 2022 at 11:55 a.m. (here) by a satirical Facebook page (here).
Fact checkers PolitiFact (here), FactCheck.org (here) and Lead Stories (here) have all debunked the claim.
Representatives for Greene did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
VERDICT
