Howard Kurtz
AllSides gives Howard Kurtz a center bias rating, something with which a majority of over 200 community members disagreed. Kurtz’s AllSides Bias Rating™ is controversial given comments he has made and policies he supports on his Fox News program Media Buzz. Although he publicly declines to state his political affiliation, Kurtz’s opinions on various issues are featured in his five published books about the media industry. Both liberal and conservative viewpoints have been perceived in his writing and television appearances. In one of his books, Kurtz describes techniques he believed the Clinton White House used to put the best possible spin on numerous controversies and scandals. Progressive media watchdogs, such as Media Matters for America, as well as conservative ones like Accuracy in Media have accused him of biases and conflicts of interest. Meanwhile, Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly has criticized Kurtz for criticizing their network. Prior to working for the right-leaning Fox, Kurtz wrote for the left-leaning Washington Post, as well as the center biased Daily Beast and CNN.
