Rain may put a damper on some Easter egg hunts this weekend, the National Weather Service in Wilmington reports. But before the showers, things are going to get a little bit frosty early April 17 in central Ohio and beyond. The weather service has issued a frost advisory for Franklin, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, and Union counties Fairfield counties from midnight until 9 a.m. April 17. More than three dozen other Ohio counties have also been placed under the advisory, which means anyone with blooming spring ground flowers may...

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a flood watch for Franklin and other central Ohio counties as multiple rounds of storms are expected to bring excessive rainfall as they plow through large swaths of Ohio this week. The NWS has placed Franklin, Licking, Madison and Union counties in central Ohio under the flood watch, along with over three dozen other counties across southern, southwestern, and north central Ohio. The flood watch will go into effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Sunday, the NWS said, as the...

Delaware is in a battle to keep our place on the corporate map, said Ben duPont in the Wilmington News Journal. More than two-thirds of the companies in the S&P 500 are incorporated in the nation’s second-smallest state, including Amazon, Google, and Coca-Cola. The primary reason is that we have a separate business court system, “where disputes are decided by judges with extensive experience in corporate law.” These judges—known as chancellors in the Delaware Court of Chancery—have “been the gold standard of fairness and justice for over 100 years.” But...

A massive storm system is set to barrel away across the Midwest this weekend, and it will not spare Columbus. Wind gusts over 40 mph will occur across central Ohio Saturday with the possibility of heavy rain and severe storms, according to a hazardous weather statement issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Looking at the forecast for Columbus specifically, NWS Wilmington predicts the city will see rain showers with thunderstorms possible after 5 p.m. Saturday. The high will be near 75. It will be breezy with wind gusts...

The federal Department of Veterans Affairs is looking for volunteer drivers to help get Cumberland County veterans to their medical appointments. The VA’s medical center in Wilmington, Delaware, which serves residents in South Jersey, wants to expand its volunteer transportation network in the county, according to Jasmin Chisholm, volunteer service specialist with the medical center. “Every day, our team of volunteer drivers pick up veterans from their homes and bring them to the medical center,” Chisholm stated in a press release.

Delaware residents have seen higher electric bills this winter, which experts and lawmakers warn is only the beginning amid the First State's green-energy push. According to The Washington Free Beacon, Delaware electric bills have jumped by hundreds of dollars in recent months, with some consumers seeing a 350% increase. Washington, D.C., resident Leigh Rieley showed the outlet her recent electric bills for a fixer-upper she owns with her husband in their southeast Delaware hometown. The couple reportedly saw a month-over-month increase of 359% in January. "We were very surprised to...

Delaware consumers have faced soaring electricity prices this winter—something experts and lawmakers are warning is a harbinger of more dramatic price hikes as the state implements aggressive green energy policies. According to electric bills reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon and local news reports, electric bills have skyrocketed by hundreds of dollars and—in some cases—by as much as 350 percent in recent months.

Independent bookstores are the heartbeats of their communities. They provide culture and community, generate local jobs and sales tax revenue, promote literacy and education, champion and center diverse and new authors, connect readers to books in a personal and authentic way, and actively support the right to read and access to books in their communities.
