Beshear vows challenge against DOGE for KY health care grant cancellations

• The Department of Government Efficiency plans to cancel grants awarded to the Kentucky State Cabinet for Health and Family Services. • The cancelled grants total roughly $121 million and were intended to support Kentucky's health care system. Gov. Andy Beshear has said he will challenge the findings of the Department of Government Efficiency, President Donald Trump's sweeping cost-cutting initiative led by tech-billionaire Elon Musk, after several grants awarded to the Kentucky State Cabinet for Health and Family Services were marked for cancellation.

Grandstand sign change officially marks start of 2025 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs

A sure sign of another Kentucky Derby on the horizon is the changing of the grandstand signage at Churchill Downs.

Crews worked Thursday to swap 150 for 151 and 2024 for 2025 on the large green and gold sign affixed between the twin spires at the iconic Louisville racetrack.

The annual tradition has taken place in the weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby every year since 1939.

The 2025 Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday, May 3.

Fed’s Musalem worries that inflation caused by higher tariffs won’t be transitory

St. Louis Fed president Alberto Musalem said Wednesday that he isn’t convinced inflation stemming from higher tariffs on imports to the U.S. would be entirely temporary and said he’s more concerned that inflation will stall above the central bank’s 2% long-term annual target.

In a speech to business leaders in Paducah, Ky., Musalem said tariffs have both immediate and indirect inflationary impacts.

Liver disease patients waiting for a transplant have been offered fresh hope. A new mechanism for rapid liver regeneration triggered by a chemical messenger called glutamate has been discovered. Researchers at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid found the process in mice begins just minutes after acute liver damage occurs.
