A second case of measles has been confirmed in Louisiana in the greater New Orleans area, Louisiana Department of Health officials said at a press conference Monday. The second case of measles was discovered in an adult who "traveled abroad," although the person was unsure of his or her measles vaccination status, Louisiana Surgeon General Dr. Ralph Abraham said. "This case was an older case, not infectious at all," he said. The health department's contact-tracing program led to the confirmation of a second case. And while the two cases are...

Flooding is expected in the New Orleans area as rain pours on the city Monday afternoon, according to an alert from NOLA Ready. The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory at 12:10 p.m. and is in effect until 2:15 p.m. The advisory inclues Jefferson and Orleans parishes, with minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas expected, according to NOLA Ready. The following municipalities could see flooding: New Orleans, Marrero, Harvey, Metairie, Jefferson, Gretna, Westwego and Bridge City. Drivers may also experience water on roadways, according to the NOLA...

It’s already been a big year for Tank and the Bangas. The funk/R&B/hip-hop/spoken word ensemble stands at the vanguard of new New Orleans music. The Bangas won their first Grammy Award in February, spent spring touring in Europe and with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and are featured on the 2025 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival poster by James Michalopoulos. After taking a year off from Jazz Fest, force-of-nature frontwoman Tarriona “Tank” Ball and her fellow Bangas hit the main Festival Stage on Saturday right before Lil Wayne and...

If there's ever a wait at Sushi Yama, persist. It's worth it for what I think is some of the freshest sushi in Baton Rouge. To get a little taste of everything, I ordered the soft-shell crab roll, Philadelphia roll and samba roll. The soft-shell crab roll intrigued me, as I've never tried soft-shell crab before, and the roll was made with avocado and masago, topped with eel sauce. Truthfully, each individual piece of the roll was so big that it was hard to properly eat. The Philadelphia is a...

Out on the edge of Louisiana’s coast, a set of giant plant pots stand as reminders of the worst-ever oil spill of its kind. But you couldn’t tell just by looking at them. The rows of containers sit under a wood frame and netting. Inside grows the same cordgrass that carpets the marshes stretching out within eyesight of this spot, in the tiny community of Cocodrie. It's all part of an elaborate experiment continuing to reveal some effects of the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. “There are a lot...

Two New Orleans defense firms — Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett and Nalley, Dew and Miner — have combined and will operate under the Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett name, handling claims in the insurance, maritime, transportation and workers’ compensation areas. Nalley's attorneys and staff will move into MBLB's offices in the Hancock Whitney Center. The move brings the number of attorneys on staff to 60. MBLB, which has an office in Lafayette, recently expanded into Chicago. BP has made an oil discovery in the Gulf south of New Orleans,...

Livvy Dunne is saying goodbye to gymnastics. After the LSU Tigers finished third in the NCAA semifinals on Thurdsay, April 17, Dunne — who couldn't compete in the meet due to injury — shared a message on X as she leaves her sport behind. "Couldn’t have asked for a better 5 years! Thank you, LSU," the gymnastics star, 22, wrote shortly after the meet. In a second post, she said, “️ out gymnastics it’s been real… and of course forever LSU!" The replies to Dunne's goodbye were filled with admiration...

Two of the general contractors hired for the $10 billion north Louisiana Meta data center project are taking their vendor/supplier show on the road.

Representatives of DPR Construction and Turner will be at the Cook Hotel and Conference Center from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 29.

This will be the opportunity for potential subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, or purveyors of professional services to share information with someone in person while putting a face with a name.
