The Senate has confirmed former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum as the next secretary of the interior in a bipartisan vote, further cementing an energy dominance focus in the president’s Cabinet. Burgum, 68, was confirmed late Thursday night in a 79-18 vote. The vote came one day after Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin was confirmed, making Burgum the eighth member of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet to be confirmed. Burgum sailed smoothly through his confirmation hearings in committee earlier this month. Last week, the Senate Committee of Energy and Natural...

WASHINGTON (KMOT) – Former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum passed a key procedural vote Wednesday afternoon in his bid for Interior Secretary. The Senate held what’s known as a vote of cloture on the motion to proceed, which essentially opens the 30-hour window for the Senate to debate his candidacy. A spokesperson for Sen. John Hoeven’s office said they need 60 ā€˜yes’ votes to proceed, and Burgum passed 78-20. A spokesperson for Hoeven’s office said they anticipate a final vote to go before the full Senate either Thursday night or...

ST. PAUL (Valley News Live) - Attorney General Keith Ellison announced a settlement with Novo Nordisk that guarantees that all Minnesotans, with or without insurance, can buy Novo Nordisk’s insulin products for $35 per month for the next five years. The settlement resolves the Attorney General’s 2018 lawsuit alleging that Novo Nordisk deceptively priced its insulin, a lifesaving drug used to treat diabetes, requiring uninsured and underinsured Minnesotans to pay astronomically high out-of-pocket costs based on the Wholesale Acquisition Cost, or list price, of the drugs.

In North Dakota, former Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Darin Viken has been charged with six counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct related to his role as coordinator of the county's 24-7 sobriety program. The program, which can be mandated as a condition of bond or probation for crimes in which drugs or alcohol played a part, requires daily drug and alcohol testing. Viken is accused of harassing women in the program. He was fired in July after the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation began its investigation.

HOUSTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) - North Dakota's oil production was estimated to be down by between 125,000 barrels per day (bpd) and 150,000 bpd due to extreme cold weather and related operational challenges, the state's pipeline authority said on Monday. North Dakota is the third-largest oil-producing state in the country and the impacted production represents about 12% of the region's 1.1 million bpd of oil output, based on data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Associated wellhead natural gas production was estimated to be down by about 350 million cubic...

National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists have issued extreme cold warnings in North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Wisconsin, with temperatures plummeting to single digit and subzero levels this weekend. Even more states have other cold weather-related alerts in place. Millions of people are bracing for frigid temperatures through next week. Subzero wind chills will hit the Northern U.S. as soon as Saturday, prompting the extreme cold warnings. The Arctic blast will then descend farther into the U.S., affecting most states by early next week. What To Know Other states are bound...

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning residents of New Mexico and North Dakota about harsh winter weather throughout their states as arctic blasts are set to hit parts of the country heading into the weekend. Winter storms pose major risks to health and safety, putting stricken residents in danger due to extreme cold and often paralyzing travel. Homeless people and others outdoors are particularly at risk for conditions like hypothermia and frostbite when temperatures drop below freezing. Former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), President-elect Trump’s nominee for Interior Secretary, sat for a largely cordial hearing before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Thursday. While some Democratic members of the panel questioned Burgum on the incoming administration’s climate policies, the hearing lacked the acrimony earlier nominees’. Burgum, who briefly sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, was a high-profile Trump surrogate after exiting the race and reportedly a vice presidential contender.

Former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum promised to maximize drilling on federal lands at his confirmation hearing for interior secretary Thursday, calling the incoming administration’s goal of ā€œenergy dominanceā€ the surest way to guarantee America’s national security. ā€œWhen energy production is restricted in America, it doesn’t reduce demand, it just shifts production to countries like Russia, Venezuela, and Iran, whose autocratic leaders don’t care about the environment,ā€ Burgum said in his opening statement.
