Tehran is also planning “terrorist attacks” at the Games, the Israeli foreign minister said Iran has orchestrated vandalism attacks against the French high-speed rail network, which paralyzed traffic ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Friday. “The sabotage of railway infrastructure across France ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics was planned and executed under the influence of Iran’s axis of evil and radical Islam,” Katz wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Katz added that he warned French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne that “based...

French authorities are tonight frantically trying to find those behind the arson attacks that crippled train services, in a bid to prevent more chaos. High-speed lines into Paris from across the country were targeted, just hours before the Olympic Games opening ceremony began. The finger of blame was pointed at France’s ultra left groups, Russia due to its Games ban and Islamic terrorists. There were scenes of chaos at Paris Gare du Nord and the city’s Gare Montparnasse as thousands of passengers arrived to find trains cancelled or delayed. President...

Who could have attacked France's high-speed rail? For France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin - the man with the task of securing the Paris Olympics - the sabotage attacks on the high-speed rail network will have come as a blow. He has vowed the attackers will all be quickly arrested, but so far he has not indicated who might be to blame. Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra promised that the culprits were not going to spoil the party, but they struck the TGV network hours before the opening ceremony - causing chaos...

Franck Dubourdieu (C), Director TGV Atlantic, speaks to journalists. A few hours before the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris, unknown persons carried out arson attacks on several facilities on the French high-speed train network. Sebastian Kahnert/dpa Suspected arson attacks on the French rail network ahead of Friday's opening of the Olympic Games, described by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal as "coordinated acts of sabotage," have caused chaos and major disruption for travellers.

CNN reported on Friday that France’s high-speed rail lines were in disarray after a “coordinated sabotage” that left hundreds of thousands of travelers stranded ahead of the Olympics in Paris. Anchor Boris Sanchez asked senior national security analyst Juliette Kayyem about the attack, which apparently took place overnight and resulted in several trains being disrupted: Kayyem: So on the impact side, it’s going to impact a couple hundred thousand travelers, they think, over the course of the time that the trains are down. There are alternatives, lots of shuttles are...

PARIS — The Paris Olympics were getting off to a rough start Friday, with suspected acts of sabotage targeting France's flagship high-speed rail network and cloudy skies, with rain forecast, over the French capital ahead of its sprawling, audacious opening ceremony. On a day of utmost importance for France and its capital, with dozens of heads of state and government in town for the Olympic opening and a global audience topping 1 billion expected to tune in, authorities were scrambling to deal with widespread rail disruptions caused by what they...

PARIS (AP) — Arsonists attacked France's high-speed rail network early Friday, paralyzing train travel to Paris for some 800,000 people across Europe, including athletes heading to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Targeting remote locations far from the capital, the apparently coordinated attacks sought to cut off rail routes into the city from all directions. The fires were predominantly set in pipes containing critical signaling cables for the system known as the TGV. Blazes were reported before dawn near the tracks on three separate lines, causing widespread disruptions.

The Paris Olympics opening ceremony will go on Friday despite a coordinated series of arson attacks on a high-speed rail network that caused travel disruptions that could last for days. No injuries have been reported in the fires, which were all detected around 4 a.m. local time, according to Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete. The fires, which were set in pipes carrying cables, caused train disruptions throughout Paris that are expected to last into the weekend. SNCF CEO Jean-Pierre Farandou said that railway maintenance workers thwarted a possible sabotage attempt along...

PARIS, July 26 (Reuters) - Unidentified saboteurs struck France's train network in a series of pre-dawn attacks across the country on Friday, causing travel chaos and exposing security gaps just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics . What do we know about the attacks? Explosive devices set off fires on signalling infrastructure on three railway lines going into Paris, rail operator SNCF said. The attacks hit the lines from cities such as Lille in the north, Bordeaux in the west and Strasbourg in the east. Another attack...
