The Israeli Defense Forces claimed to have carried out a ā€œtargeted airstrikeā€ in Beirut Tuesday. According to Lebanese media, the strike killed at least one woman and was conducted by a drone launching three missiles. The airstrike was conducted in response to the death of 12 children from Israel’s Arabic-speaking Druze minority in a July 27 missile attack on the town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights. After the attack, Israel blamed Hezbollah. Hezbollah published a rare denial. ā€œHezbollah crossed the red line,ā€ Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced...

ā€˜The ball is now in Hezbollah’s court,’ an Israeli official says, indicating Israel expects an end to the ever-escalating reprisals. In a carefully aimed attack Tuesday, Israel’s military, defying Washington, has reportedly targeted at the heart of Beirut a top Hezbollah commander who is considered responsible for the missile attack that killed 12 children Saturday on the Golan Heights. ā€œThe ball is now in Hezbollah’s court,ā€ an unidentified Israeli official told Israeli reporters, indicating that as far as Israel is concerned it expects an end to the ever-escalating reprisals.
