The Turo app was used to rent the cars associated with the vehicular attack in New Orleans as well as the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Newsweek reached out to the Turo communications team via email for comment. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, has been named the suspect in the New Year's attack on Bourbon Street that killed at least 15 people and injured 30 early Wednesday morning. Later on Wednesday in Las Vegas, a Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel, killing one and injuring seven others....

The deadly Jan. 1, 2025, attack in New Orleans serves as a reminder of the persistent threat to the U.S. from individuals inspired by extremist Islamist groups. While the investigation is still ongoing, some details about the suspect have been released. Authorities say Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran, was behind the assault in which a truck was driven into a dense crowd in New Orleans’ French Quarter a few hours after midnight, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more. Jabbar, who died in a shoot-out with police,...

A U.S. Army veteran from Texas who drove to Louisiana and deliberately plowed into New Year’s revelers in New Orleans recorded videos during the drive addressed to his family, in which he talked about plans to kill them and told them he had joined ISIS. “I wanted to record this message for my family,” Shamsud-Din Jabbar said in the videos. “I wanted you to know that I joined ISIS earlier this year.” He then added: “I don’t want you to think I spared you willingly.” He told his family that...

Precursor chemicals were found in the north Houston home that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the deadly New Year's Day attack on Bourbon Street, was renting, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New Orleans. The FBI with the Houston Branch said that they found precursor chemicals while investigating the property in north Harris County that Jabbar had been renting for two years, the FBI in New Orleans confirmed over e-mail Friday morning. Precursor chemicals can be used to produce homemade explosives "by either mixing or blending with other...

FBI officials now believe that the suspect in the New Orleans terrorist attack on New Year’s Day was acting alone after previously saying they believed he had accomplices. FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia said Thursday that investigators believe there are no additional suspects in the Bourbon Street attack, which killed at least 15 people early Wednesday. “We do not assess at this point that anyone else is involved in this attack except for Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the subject you’ve already been briefed on,” Raia said. At Wednesday’s briefing, Assistant Special...

The FBI said at a press conference Thursday morning that they believe the suspect in the New Orleans terrorism attack on New Year’s Day acted alone. More than 1,000 law enforcement agents are still trying to piece together what happened leading up to the attack, in which someone drove a Ford F-150 truck into a crowd of Bourbon Street revelers, killing 14 and injuring at least 35 others. The suspect, Texas-born Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was killed by police following the incident. “We're confident at this point that there's no accomplices,” said...

Bomb-making materials were reportedly found at a New Orleans Airbnb, as authorities investigate a possible connection to the truck-ramming terror attack that killed at least 15 people and injured over 30 others on Bourbon Street during a New Year's celebration. A small fire broke out at a suspected Airbnb property located in the 1300 block of Mandeville Street in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. The New Orleans Fire Department evacuated dozens of people from nearby homes and contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms...

Second thought? Third thought? No thinking at all? Yesterday morning, FBI spokesperson Alethea Duncan directly contradicted both the mayor of New Orleans and the chief of police in declaring that the mass-murder attack by truck wasn't a terrorist act. By the afternoon, the same agent declared that not only was it a terror attack, but that Shamsud-din Jabbar had several accomplices who helped place two explosives in the area. Now, the FBI has decided that Jabbar acted on his own, after paying closer attention to the videos that prompted the...

The FBI said Thursday that the New Orleans truck-ramming attacker had published videos proclaiming support for the Islamic State group. Shamsud-Din Jabbar "drove from Houston to New Orleans on the evening of the 31st and he posted several videos to an online platform proclaiming his support for ISIS," FBI deputy assistant director Christopher Raia told a press conference, using another name for the armed group. In one video, Jabbar "explains he originally planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the...
