Canada’s embattled prime minister, 53-year-old Justin Trudeau, announced plans to step down from his post on Monday—to the apparent delight of both his party and US President-elect Donald Trump. Trudeau, who has served as prime minister since 2015, has grown increasingly unpopular with Canadian voters over issues like inflation, housing costs, immigration and a series of personal scandals, and his center-left Liberal Party seemed headed for a landslide defeat in this fall’s parliamentary elections. Resigning as the head of the party now—and agreeing to step down as PM once a...

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday morning that he is stepping down as leader of the leftist Liberal Party of Canada ahead of its national caucus meeting on Wednesday. The announcement comes after years of scandals and after several weeks of his own party members calling for him to resign. "I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister after the party selects its next leader through a robust nationwide, competitive process," Trudeau told reporters outside his taxpayer-funded home at Rideau Cottage, doing his apparent best to smile....

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to announce his resignation today, according to multiple reports. Newsweek has contacted Trudeau's office for comment via email. Trudeau has led Canada since 2015, but his popularity has waned in recent years over issues such as the high cost of living and rising inflation. Members of his own Liberal Party have urged him to quit as polls show the ruling party will lose badly to the opposition Conservatives in the next election. The abrupt resignation of Trudeau's finance minister Chrystia Freeland in December...

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reportedly is expected to resign as party leader Monday following weeks of mounting pressure and criticism. Trudeau will announce his decision to step down as leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party but will remain prime minister until a new leader is selected, CNN and The New York Times reported, citing sources close to him. His announcement reportedly is expected during a news conference scheduled for 10:45 a.m. ET. Trudeau’s departure would follow him leading the party for nearly 11 years and serving as prime minister...

Trudeau Out: Canadian Prime Minister "Likely To Resign" This Week Back on New Year's Eve, when looking at the global tsunami of resentment and loathing at establishment politics and corrupt politicians that crushed incumbent political parties and politicians around the globe, we eyed the one person that was long overdue to be swept in the tidal wave.

OTTAWA — Justin Trudeau is poised to resign as the leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, a move that adds confusion to chaos in Ottawa.

The three-term prime minister arrived home from a Christmas ski holiday to an open revolt in his caucus unleashed by the stealth resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland on Dec. 16.

The prime minister is expected to announce the news at 10:45 a.m. Monday outside his official home at Rideau Cottage.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to hold a news conference on Monday, with a senior government source telling AFP the embattled premier has decided to step down.

Ahead of the news conference scheduled for 10:45 am (1545 GMT), the source said "it's a done deal that he is leaving... It's now just about how."

The source did not immediately indicate whether Trudeau would resign as Liberal party leader and stay on as a caretaker prime minister.

Will he stay, or will he go? For Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the latter appears imminent. Now bettors on Polymarket are debating on when exactly he'll announce his resignation. While Trudeau resignation contracts aren't anything new, there are two with low six-figures of volume attached to them asking if he'll be gone by February or April, and another from December asking if opposition parties will trigger an election by the spring. The interest in the Canadian Prime Minister's fate popped up on Monday after scoops from two of Canada's...
