McDonald’s is scrapping many of its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The move is part of a larger trend of corporations rolling back DEI commitments made during the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 and their aftermath. McDonald’s cited a “shifting legal landscape,” referring to last year’s Supreme Court decision outlawing affirmative action in college admissions, for its reasoning. Specifically, the company will end diversity quotas at senior levels and end a program that pushes suppliers to develop DEI training.

McDonald’s is ending several of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives — including goals meant to diversify its leadership ranks and suppliers — becoming the latest high-profile brand to retreat from DEI amid a rocky legal landscape and pressure from conservative activists. The company said in a statement Monday that it was ending representation goals and supplier diversity efforts, and will now refer to its diversity team as its “Global Inclusion Team.” It also will pause surveys that assess the company’s progress on its diversity efforts, such as the...

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Jane King takes a look at Tuesday’s business headlines, from the first bird flu death in the U.S., to McDonald’s shift in policies, and the increasing difficulty for white-collar workers to find employment. The first U.S. Bird flu death has been reported in a louisiana patient. The patient, who was older than 65 and had underlying medical conditions, was hospitalized weeks ago in critical condition with severe respiratory illness. The louisiana patient’s death does not change the overall assessment by the centers for disease control and prevention...

McDonald's announced Monday that it is "retiring" some of its diversity, equity and inclusion goals and will rebrand its team focused on the matter. Among the goals the company is ending or pausing are diversity quotas, a program that had the company work with suppliers on growing diversity in their ranks and external surveys on DEI. The decision comes after the 2023 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that banned affirmative action in colleges, which the company said led it to evaluate "the shifting legal landscape to anticipate how this ruling may...

McDonald's is the latest and one of the largest companies to announce that it will be rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The corporation announced in a statement Monday that it will be making several changes to its practices, including "retiring setting aspirational representation goals," ceasing DEI requirements for its suppliers, and "pausing external surveys" focused on inclusion, including the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index (CEI).

Four years after launching a push for more diversity in its ranks, McDonald’s is ending some of its diversity practices, citing a U.S. Supreme Court decision that outlawed affirmative action in college admissions. McDonald’s is the latest big company to shift its tactics in the wake of the 2023 ruling and a conservative backlash against diversity, equity and inclusion programs. Walmart, John Deere, Harley-Davidson and others rolled back their DEI initiatives last year. McDonald’s said Monday it will retire specific goals for achieving diversity at senior leadership levels. It also...

McDonald’s has become one of the largest US companies to roll back its diversity targets following a Supreme Court ruling on positive discrimination on American university campuses. The fast food giant said it would abandon targets for achieving diverse representation in senior roles and change the name of its diversity team to become the Global Inclusion Team. It will also scrap requirements for suppliers to comply with so-called diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals and will stop taking part in external surveys that measure corporate diversity. “For the last several...

The fast-food chain said it would rename its diversity team the Global Inclusion Team. McDonald’s said on Monday that it would roll back some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives due to the “shifting legal landscape” following a Supreme Court ruling in 2023 that rejected affirmative action in university admissions. McDonald’s said that it will end the requirement for suppliers to commit to a DEI pledge, suspend participation in external surveys, and rename its diversity team the Global Inclusion Team. It did not specify the focus of the...

Another DEI-mino Falls: McDonald's Latest To Bail On Diversity Goals Bowing to a mix of court rulings, consumer backlash, and rational attentiveness to self-interest, US institutions are abandoning the cult of diversity, equity and inclusion. The latest domino to fall is an American icon: McDonald's on Monday announced it is curtailing many of its diversity initiatives. The news came in an open letter to McDonald's its owner/operators, employees and suppliers. Among other factors influencing the move away from DEI, the company pointed to the Supreme Court's 2023 ruling that struck...

McDonald’s just announced the rollback of several diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. McDonald’s, a global leader in the fast-food industry, is not alone in this shift. Other major corporations have also begun to rethink their approaches to inclusion and diversity following the court's decision. According to a survey by McKinsey & Company, 83% of executives believe that diversity is important for business success; however, the recent legal changes have created a complex environment for implementing these beliefs. This decision comes on the heels of the U.S.
