Israel’s army confirmed that one of the bodies recovered from Gaza earlier this month was that of 23-year-old hostage Hamzah AlZayadni. The army said the identification was made by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Israel’s police and the family has been notified. The army said its forces recovered the bodies of Hamzah and his father from an underground tunnel in the Rafah area and returned them to Israel. His father, Yosef AlZayadni, had been identified earlier this week. The father and son were thought to still be alive...

Israel has confirmed that the remains of 23-year-old hostage Hamzah AlZaydani, taken during Hamas-led attacks in 2023, were recovered in Gaza alongside those of his father, Yosef AlZaydani. Friday's announcement comes amid ongoing discussions for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which could lead to the release of the remaining hostages. The identification of Hamzah AlZaydani's body underscores the devastating human toll of the Israel-Hamas war, now in its 15th month.

The Israeli military said on Friday that Hamza Ziyadne, an Arab citizen of Israel held hostage in Gaza, had been killed in the Palestinian enclave, as efforts by mediators to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas to free hostages have seen little success. Over 15 months after the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7, 2023 prompted the war in Gaza, around 98 hostages remain in Gaza; roughly 36 are presumed dead by the Israeli authorities. The confirmation of Mr. Ziyadne’s death comes just a day after family and friends buried...

The body of a Hamas hostage has been discovered in an underground tunnel in Gaza - beside what are thought to be his son's remains. Yosef AlZayadni was found dead by Israeli soldiers in southern Gaza, the nation's military said. It added work is ongoing to determine if another set of remains belongs to the man's son, Hamzah. The grim find comes as Israel and Hamas are considering a ceasefire deal which would free the remaining hostages and halt the fighting in Gaza. Israel says about one third of the...

Relatives and friends of Youssef Ziyadne and his son Hamza, two Bedouins who were taken hostage on Oct. 7, 2023, gathered at the family home in the southern Bedouin city of Rahat, Israel on Wednesday. The hostage, Youssef Ziyadne, an Arab Bedouin, was seized along with three grown children on Oct. 7, 2023. Two of them were released, but there is ā€œserious concernā€ about the fate of the third. The Israel Defense Forces recovered the corpse of Israeli hostage Youssef Ziyadne from an underground tunnel in the southern Gazan city of Rafah and have returned it to Israel, the military said Wednesday. Ziyadne, a 53-year-old father of 19, was killed after Hamas terrorists abducted him and three of his children on Oct. 7, 2023. The IDF also said it located findings related to Ziyadne's son Hamza that raise "serious concerns for his life." Two of Ziyadne's other children, Bilal and Aisha, were released on Nov. 30, 2023, after spending...

The Israeli Army on Wednesday said it had recovered the body from the Gaza Strip of an Israeli citizen who was kidnapped by Hamas during its terrorist attack on Oct. 7 and held hostage, and was working to identify the remains of another body as a possible Israeli hostage. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), along with Israel’s intelligence services, located and recovered the body of Youssef Ziyadne, 53, from an underground tunnel in the area of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, and returned his body to Israel, it said. The...

By TIA GOLDENBERG and MELANIE LIDMAN, Associated Press JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli forces have recovered the body of a hostage held in Gaza, the military said Wednesday, adding that it was identifying additional remains that could belong to another captive held in the war-torn enclave. The military said it recovered the body of Yosef AlZayadni, 53, from an underground tunnel during an operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. It said it found evidence that raised ā€œserious concernsā€ for the life of AlZayadni’s son Hamzah, who was also taken...
