New Mexico Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich lashed out at his Republican colleague, Utah Senator Mike Lee, for not postponing the confirmation hearing of Chris Wright, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Energy. Heinrich and other Democrats sought a delay of Wednesday's hearing for at least a week because they were not able to properly review all the necessary vetting paperwork related to Wright. Newsweek has contacted the offices of Heinrich, Lee and Wright for comment via email. Wright's selection as energy secretary is another of Trump's Cabinet...

WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Democratic lawmakers on the U.S. Senate Energy Committee called Tuesday on the panel's Republican chairman to postpone the confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Energy, citing a paperwork delay. The hearing for Chris Wright is scheduled for Wednesday. Wright plans to step down as CEO and chairman of Liberty Energy (LBRT.N) once he is confirmed as energy secretary. He is expected to help boost Trump's policy of energy dominance with increased production of U.S. oil and gas. Senator Martin...

FBI background checks and other paperwork have contributed to some Senate confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet choices not yet being scheduled, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told Newsmax on Monday morning. A member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Johnson appeared on "Wake Up America" and was asked why hearings for such nominees as Tulsi Gabbard (national security) and Kash Patel (FBI) have not been scheduled while other nomination hearings begin this week. "I know there are some issues in terms of getting the FBI background...

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said on Sunday that a ā€œpaperwork problemā€ with the Office of Government Ethics is holding up the hearing for President-elect Trump’s pick to lead the U.S. intelligence community, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii). In an interview on CBS News’s ā€œFace the Nation,ā€ Margaret Brennan noted that Gabbard appears to be the only member of Trump’s national security team without a scheduled hearing. ā€œIs it the FBI background check that’s holding things up or is it the ethics disclosure that’s a problem?ā€ she asked. ā€œYou’re...
