TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday morning announced plans to reform Florida’s petition and amendment process, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. The proposal, set to be addressed during a special legislative session starting Jan. 27, aims to curb fraudulent activities in petition collection and reduce special interest influence in constitutional amendments. DeSantis pointed to a recent investigation by the Secretary of State, which he said uncovered widespread fraud in petition signatures for a ballot initiative.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has set a special legislative session to boost President-elect Trump's planned crackdown on undocumented immigration. Why it matters: Should DeSantis succeed, Florida would become even more inhospitable to undocumented immigrants, who already face restrictions for transportation, health care and work. • State senators and representatives tell Axios the governor's announcement blindsided them, with lawmakers from both parties calling the move unnecessary and wasteful.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling for a Special Session later this month, and sharp increases in condo costs are high on the list of issues he wants state lawmakers to address. The Legislature passed new requirements in 2022 for condo associations to prevent another Surfside collapse, including heightened assessment demands and increased reserve funding. In two subsequent Regular Sessions, lawmakers passed additional measures to fine-tune the changes. But the new rules created new problems, particularly for condo owners living on fixed incomes who suddenly saw their fees skyrocket.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling lawmakers back to Tallahassee later this month for a special session to help boost President-elect Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. DeSantis, during a news conference at the state Capitol on Monday, said Florida needed to help Trump’s expected “ambitious policy changes” on immigration enforcement. To do that, DeSantis said Florida needs more money for local governments. He said he plans to call the Legislature back beginning Jan. 27. The regular legislative session is set to begin on March 4. “We don’t have the ability to just...

Gov. Ron DeSantis has called a Special Session starting Jan. 27 to take up legislation cracking down on illegal immigration. The Republican Governor said he wants policies in place quickly once when President-elect Donald Trump takes office on Jan. 20. Trump ran on a hard-line immigration platform and has promised mass deportations quickly once he takes office. “We are going to see a sea change in policies, particularly with respect to the border and illegal immigration,” DeSantis said. “This is an issue that has been festering in this country for...
