New tariffs on China went into effect Tuesday as part of President Trump’s effort to use trade measures to halt the flow of fentanyl into the US. The 10% additional tariff on imported Chinese goods came into force at 12:01 a.m., hours after the leaders of Mexico and Canada were able to negotiate a 30-day pause on the implementation of massive, 25% duties on goods bound for the US. Trump, 78, declared last week that the fentanyl crisis in America constituted a “national emergency” and that he would use his...

Over the weekend, President Trump issued executive orders heaping significant additional tariffs on America's biggest trading partners, Canada, China, and Mexico. To justify the tariffs—"a 25 percent additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10 percent additional tariff on imports from China"—Trump claimed that all partners were allowing drugs and immigrants to illegally enter the US. Declaring a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, Trump's orders seemed bent on "downplaying" the potential economic impact on Americans, AP News reported.

Democratic lawmakers are claiming that President Donald Trump's impending tax on international goods will raise costs, despite spending years deflecting blame for high prices from the Biden administration. Trump signed an executive order Saturday night to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada and a 10% tax on all imports from China, fulfilling a promise he made during his 2024 presidential campaign as a way to circumvent drug trafficking into the U.S. The tariffs on Canada and China are set to go into effect at midnight, but...

From beer to manufacturing and consumer products, these stocks could benefit from President Donald Trump’s trade war on Canada, Mexico and China.

On Tuesday, the U.S. will start collecting new 25% tariffs on goods imported from Mexico and Canada, as well as an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods. The move has already sparked retaliatory Canadian tariffs on U.S. imports. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario also quickly moved to pull American liquor off its shelves starting Tuesday.

Stocks largely recovered from an early tumble Monday after President Trump confirmed he would delay imposing tariffs on Mexico for a month. But other massive tariffs that were announced this weekend on Canada and China remained in play as they are set to take effect midnight Tuesday. The Dow opened about 500 points lower after stock markets in Asia, led by Japan, fell sharply overnight. European stocks were trading lower as well. But by mid-morning, after Mexico announced it had reached a deal with Trump to delay the tariffs, stocks...

Listen to the day’s top stories. Donald Trump sparked a global market selloff after making good on his threat to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China. The levies are set to take effect tomorrow barring a last-minute deal in Trump’s calls with leaders of Canada and Mexico today. And there’s more to come: The European Union is next on his...

President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada, Mexico, and China is ramping up over the production and importation of the opiate fentanyl, along with trade surpluses and illegal border crossings by migrants from across the globe. Here is what Beijing says about it: What has been China’s reaction so far? China has reiterated its threat to take “necessary countermeasures to defend its legitimate rights and interests” following Trump’s decision to impose 10% tariffs on China for allegedly doing too little to stem the production of precursor chemicals for fentanyl. The...

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said he will talk to leaders from Canada and Mexico on Monday, a day before the 25% tariffs he imposed on the country's top two trading partners go into effect. Within hours of Trump’s Saturday order, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hit back with tit-for-tat retaliatory 25% tariffs on American goods.
