The move came hours after Trump said Mexican imports covered under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) would be exempted, and one day after he said auto imports included in the USMCA would not be subject to tariffs. The exemption also applies to auto parts used in the assembly of cars. “USMCA-compliant goods will not have a tariff for the next month, until April 2. That includes autos, and the autos were the lead in getting this done, but also Canada and Mexico have done a good job offering us ever more...

On Monday afternoon, Sandya Dandamudi had five trucks racing to cross the Canadian border by midnight. The trucks, full of American granite that was fabricated in Canada, needed to be in the U.S. or they risked being slapped by President Donald Trump’s 25% tariff on Canadian imports. Dandamudi, president of Chicago-based stone supplier GI Stone, said the last truck came in at 11:30 p.m. — a half hour before the tariffs went into effect. Her goal was to have 10 trucks cross the border, but half of them didn’t make...

Trump administration officials met with executives from Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Stellantis NV on Tuesday to discuss the impact of the tariffs and possible relief measures, according to Bloomberg News. Another high-level meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at the White House to further evaluate potential tariff exemptions, the news agency reported.

Both China and Canada moved swiftly on Tuesday to retaliate against newly imposed U.S. tariffs, announcing their own levies on U.S. goods that could further disrupt U.S. trade with its top three trading partners. A 25% U.S. blanket tariff on goods imported from Canada and Mexico took effect just after midnight Tuesday, along with an additional 10% tariff on goods from China. The three countries together accounted for more than 40% of total U.S. imports last year. China will impose additional tariffs of up to 15% on...

Earlier on March 3, President Donald Trump said that his country would be proceeding with 25 percent tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports into the U.S. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will proceed with counter-tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods as the United States seems poised to proceed with blanket tariffs on Canadian imports. “Today, after a 30-day pause, the United States administration has decided to proceed with imposing 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian exports and 10 per cent tariffs on Canadian energy,“ Trudeau said in...
