A fast-moving storm front tracked across St. Joseph County Sunday afternoon, knocking down trees and interrupting power to thousands across the region. Sturgis was hard-hit by the storms, which prompted the National Weather Service to issue a radar-indicated tornado warning around 5:15 p.m. Residents reported hearing the two operational sirens in the city for only several seconds before an apparent power outage cut the signal.
