As expected, residents opposing the construction of a new Atlanta Police and Fire Department training facility, better known as Cop City are working vigorously to block funding for the project and kill the development altogether. But while they are have been hard at work, zealously fighting to stop Cop City, 61 people have been indicted on racketeering, aka RICO, charges following a state investigation into protests against the project. Republican Attorney General Chris Carr, who referred to the defendants as “militant activists,” may have over reached though with RICO charges,...

Georgia Attorney General Christopher Carr announced the indictment of 61 “Stop Cop City” protesters on racketeering charges. The Stop Cop City movement, which has been ongoing for more than two years, is in protest of planned police and firefighter training facility in the Atlanta area. Opponents of the facility have expressed concern that the training center will lead to greater militarization of the police. They also feared the construction of the facility in an urban forest will cause environmental damage. Stop Cop City protests have veered into vandalism and violence...

RICO charges have been filed against over 60 far-left terrorists who have repeatedly assaulted members of the Atlanta Police Department and caused broader destruction and violence over the construction of a new police training facility that has been dubbed “Cop City.” As Fox News reports, the indictment in Fulton County, Georgia targets members of the group Atlanta Forest, most of whose members are from out-of-state and describe themselves as a “coalition and enterprise of militant anarchists, eco-activists and community organizers.” The indictments accuse them of planning, promoting, and e

The same Fulton County grand Jury that indicted former President Donald Trump and his 18 co-defendants under a Georgia state racketeering law also used the same law to indict 61 people who were protesting against the building of an Atlanta police training center. Georgia Republican Attorney General Chris Carr said Tuesday that a Fulton County grand jury indicted 61 people were protesting against the training center, which critics dubbed "Cop City," under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution confirmed that it was the same grand jury...

Protests rooted in opposition to a planned police-training center near Atlanta flared in January after a protester was killed in a law-enforcement sweep. Georgia prosecutors unveiled racketeering charges Tuesday against 61 protesters who have opposed a planned public-safety training center on the outskirts of Atlanta, the latest use of the broad organized-crime law that is also central in the state election-interference indictment of former President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr announced the indictment of 61 alleged “militant anarchists” under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. That indictment was handed down last week by the same Fulton County Grand Jury that indicted former President Donald Trump and 18 other co-defendants on RICO charges. The charges stem from alleged radical actions taken by anti-police actors connected with the “Stop Cop City” movement that occurred between 2020 and 2022, according to Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr.

Over 60 Antifa militants have been indicted under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act over the Atlanta “Cop City” riots and attacks on officers. The $90 million training facility, nicknamed “Cop City” by activists, will sit on 381 acres in the South River Forest, also known as the Weelaunee Forest. Anti-police militants and extremist environmentalists have been camping in trees and protesting on the grounds where the construction is meant to occur for over a year, claiming to be defending the forest. In March, the Atlanta Police arrested 23...

Prosecutors in Georgia have filed racketeering charges against several dozen people after a state investigation into ongoing local protests against a proposed police training facility that protestors have named “Cop City,” the Associated Press reported. A newly unsealed filing dated August 29, 2023, from the Fulton County court lists the 61 people being indicted.

Georgia's attorney general blamed out-of-state anarchists for fueling violent protests against Atlanta's planned $90 million police training center — dubbed "Cop City" by opponents — after he announced RICO charges against 61 activists on Tuesday. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said the Defend the Atlanta Forest coalition was willing to use "any means necessary…including violence, in order to advance their agenda." That includes allegedly cutting "the safety rope of an arborist working in one of the trees on the site," Carr said during a news conference. The group also allegedly...

Last week a grand jury in Georgia indicted 61 anti-“cop city” protesters on RICO charges. A total of 61 protestors have been charged with violating the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations act. Some face additional charges of domestic terrorism and money laundering. Most are not from Georgia… Arrests began back in May 2022, when protestors were taken into custody at the training center site and accused of throwing Molotov cocktails towards officers and causing a small fire as police officers tried to clear the site. In December, five protestors...
