North Korean leader Kim Jong Un continues his visit to Russia’s Far East, where he is expected to visit aviation factories and inspect Russia’s Pacific naval fleet on Thursday. The visit is a display of closeness between Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was expected to discuss obtaining North Korean weaponry for the war in Ukraine. Putin accepted Kim’s invitation to visit North Korea “in the future,” according to the North’s official Korean Central News Agency. The Kremlin said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Pyongyang, the North...

Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un discussed the possibility of sending a North Korean into space, Russian news agencies quoted Putin's spokesman as saying. President Putin and the North Korean leader held talks on Wednesday at a spaceport in Russia's far east. "We talked about the fact that if the North Korean side wishes, a North Korean cosmonaut can be trained and sent into space," the TASS and RIA Novosti news agencies quoted Dmitry Peskov as saying. If that were to happen, the cosmonaut would be the first North Korean...

The leaders of Russia and North Korea held a rare summit on Wednesday after North Korea’s Kim Jong Un traveled to a city in Russia’s Far East in his armored train. Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Kim in person for the first time since 2019, and the two discussed topics including Russia’s war in Ukraine, space technology, and the potential for military cooperation between the two countries. The meeting took place at Vostochny Cosmodrome, which is the most important launch center in Russia, according to the Associated Press. “Russia...

“This is about countering the so-called rules-based international order, which has undermined its own rules by sanctioning many countries, like Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and lots of others,” says Sergei Markov, a former Kremlin adviser. “Some of those rules might be reasonable, but then they [the West] go and violate their own rules when it suits them. Russia is a country that’s too big to be sanctioned, and it can bring together those countries in a common cause.” Russia, analysts say, is rebuilding a semblance of the old “Soviet bloc,”...

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, Russia’s most advanced space launch facility. Kim pledged unwavering support for Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, while Putin said Russia would help North Korea build satellites — dual-use technology that could greatly improve the quality of North Korea’s long-range ballistic missiles.

I a scene from the cold war. Kim Jong Un, North Korea’s leader, stepped off his luxurious bulletproof train this week having crossed into Russia’s Far East, to be greeted by a military brass brand and whisked off to meet Vladimir Putin. Over a meal of duck salad and crab dumplings, washed down with Russian wines, the two dictators toasted what Mr Kim called the “sacred fight” against Western imperialism. Both men are throwbacks. Mr Kim is the grandson of a tyrant imposed on North Korea by Stalin. Mr Putin...

A photograph released by Russian state media shows the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia during a meeting on Wednesday in Russia. The two leaders trumpeted their ties in a summit that signaled a new era in their relationship, amid speculation that North Korea would send more weapons to Moscow for its war in Ukraine. They gazed into the workings of a rocket launchpad. They tucked into crab dumplings, sturgeon and entrecĂ´te. And they lifted their glasses at a flower-lined table in the conference...

The United States on Wednesday voiced alarm on new military cooperation between Russia and North Korea after the two countries' leaders met and warned of potential new US sanctions.

The cooperation including on satellites is "quite troubling and would potentially be in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said separately: "Any arrangements that would improve North Korea's military capabilities would certainly be of concern."

Kim Jong Un vows full support for Russia as Putin pledges space tech for North Korea SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised his full support for Russian President Vladimir Putin in what he called a "fight against imperialism" in a summit in Russia, saying the countries' relations are a "top priority." Putin offered North Korea technological assistance to launch a satellite into space and said there are "possibilities" for military cooperation between them. The meeting, which lasted more than four hours Wednesday in Russia's Far...

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on Wednesday, and their talks were "very substantive," according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The duo, which had not met in person since before the coronavirus pandemic, spent roughly five hours together, according to Russian state news agency TASS. They met at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
