The 2024 Twin Cities Pride Festival was held in Minneapolis’ Loring Park on the last weekend in June, with a parade on Sunday winding down Hennepin from 3rd Avenue to Spruce. For Abby Cole, Olympia’s Pride Parade is an opportunity to see people who look like her. Cole is a leader of Girl Scouts of Western Washington Troop 43869. She, other troop leaders and several Girl Scouts were just a few of the hundreds who participated in this year’s parade, a key part of Capital City Pride’s annual celebration of LGBTQ+ pride. The parade made its way from the Capitol Campus down Capitol Way to Heritage Park on Sunday. “We are here to show that Girl Scouting isn’t just for cisgender...

BALTIMORE — Baltimore is one of only a handful of cities nationwide to host a Trans Pride as a separate event from the more traditional Pride celebrations. On Saturday, the event kicked off with a parade through North Charles Street, followed by a block party. This year’s festivities honored the life of community advocate Meghan Riley Lewis, a trans woman who was killed back in December last year in Bel Air. Prior to her death, Lewis created a support group for transgender people. Days before, she organized a holiday dinner...

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Visitors to downtown Wichita witnessed a celebration of Pride on Saturday. The annual Pride parade took to the streets shortly before noon, and there was also a large festival inside Century II. This year’s theme is YOUnited with Pride. Some of the people celebrating said the events are a great place to meet a supportive community. “I think it’s important just because we don’t have a lot of this regularly, you know,” Sophia Vest said. “It’s nice to be able to meet up with the community...

Friday marks International Pride Day, a significant date for the LGBTQIA community to both honor historical milestones and plan for future advocacy. According to Cheryl Czach, Executive Director at Affirmations, the day serves as an important reminder of pivotal events in the struggle for LGBTQI+ rights. "It recognizes and remembers the riots of the Stonewall Inn in 1969. Today is the anniversary of that, and Pride kind of came out of that riot that started back then," said Czach. Looking beyond reflection, members of the community are also setting their...

Saturday’s events hosted by Pride Houston are expected to draw larger crowds than last weekend’s Pride festival and parade hosted by Houston’s New Faces of Pride, a competing organization. Pride Houston 365 will celebrate the city's LGBTQ+ community on Saturday with a festival and parade, much like the nonprofit has for decades. Perhaps the all-day, downtown event outside Houston City Hall could also be considered a celebration of perseverance by the organization itself, which has navigated a series of challenges in recent years. Pride Houston sued its former executive director...

Ahead of this weekend’s 53rd Pride Parade — slated to be a shorter and smaller version than normal — the Chicago Police Department said much of its focus will be on the sometimes-raucous post-parade parties in and around the Northalsted area. “It’s important that this tradition and this parade goes off safely, goes off without any problems and any issues,” CPD Superintendent Larr Snelling said at a press conference Friday morning at the Center on Halsted. “We want to make sure that everyone who shows up is safe, we want...
