Two more candidates have filed elections paperwork in the race for two open seats on the Carroll County Board of Education, bringing the total number of candidates in the race to four. Amanda Jozkowski and Muri Dueppen jointly announced their candidacies on Monday. The duo also established a joint campaign finance committee, the Slate for Student Success, according to a news release. Thomas L. McFadden Jr. is the new representative of the Shenandoah District on the Warren County School Board. McFadden, who ran unopposed, went up against write-in candidates who had a total of 874 votes. McFadden won with 1,402 votes, according to unofficial election results. Amber Mabie was the prominent write-in candidate in the district and she will take the place of Shenandoah District representative Ralph Rinaldi in January. In the South River District, School Board Chairwoman Kristen Pence defeated challenger Leslie Mathews in a tight race. Pence had 1,308 votes...

Democrats won majorities in the Virginia House and Senate while local House and Senate incumbents won re-election. In the Richmond Highway corridor, Democratic state Sen. Scott Surovell won re-election in the 34th Senate District, according to unofficial election results. Democratic Del. Paul Krizek was unopposed in the 16th House District, and Democratic Del. Mark Sickles was unopposed and won in the 17th House District.

As Boise-area school districts face overcrowding in schools and failed bond issues, incumbent trustees in the Kuna, West Ada, Nampa, Caldwell and Vallivue school districts faced challengers for reelection. Some of the races became contentious. The winners in each district will have four-year terms. In Kuna, three incumbent trustees seeking re-election each faced an opponent. A combined $43,063 has been raised by all of the candidates thus far, according to the state’s campaign-finance filing portal. Nearly two-thirds of that was raised by two challengers.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA —Ten candidates ran in the 2023 General Election for five open seats on the Phoenixville Area School District school board. The district covers 22 square miles and includes Phoenixville, and East Pikeland and Schuylkill townships. It has 32,000 residents. The district has one high school, one middle school, and three elementary schools, Barkley, Manavon, and Schuylkill, and plans to construct a fourth off Hares Hill Road, East Pikeland Township. Residents are electing one township committee member and voting on a public question. Additionally, three seats are open on the Washington Township Schools Board of Education and one seat is open on the West Morris Regional High School District Board of Education.
