Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson suspended her campaign on Wednesday after a poor showing in the Nevada primary.

The Details: Incumbent President Joe Biden won the state with over 89% of the vote, while Williamson received 2.9%, half as much as the “None of These Candidates” option.

For Context: Known for her work as an author, she also ran for President on the Democratic ticket in 2020. While she was a longshot candidate in both elections, some mainstream media outlets have demonstrated clear bias against Williamson in the form of slant, a recent AllSides analysis found. Remaining in the race is longshot Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) who elected to skip the Nevada primary.

Key Quote: “My team and I brought to the table some great ideas, and I will take pleasure when I see them live on in campaigns and candidates yet to be created…While we did not succeed at running a winning political campaign, I know in my heart that we impacted the political ethers,” said Williamson. She also noted she will leave her 2024 campaign website up, hoping future candidates “will take what works for them, drinking from the well of information we prepared.”

How The Media Covered It: The story was covered similarly by outlets across the spectrum. CBS News (Lean Left bias) noted some of Williamson’s campaign struggles from both her White House bids.

Marianne Williamson announced Wednesday night she is ending her Democratic presidential campaign for president.

The 71-year-old author said in a video posted to social media that "it is time to suspend my campaign for the presidency."

"We did what we could to shed some light in some very darkened times. For that I will always be so grateful," Williamson said.

Her announcement came one day after she was soundly defeated by President Biden in the Nevada Democratic primary.

Author Marianne Williamson suspended her long-shot presidential primary campaign, challenging President Joe Biden for the Democratic party’s nomination after a string of poor performances in Nevada, South Carolina and New Hampshire.

In a statement on her campaign website, Williamson said she greatly appreciated the people who supported her, adding: “While the level of our failure is obvious to all, a level of success is real nonetheless.”

Author Marianne Williamson ended her 2024 Democratic presidential campaign on Wednesday after a poor showing in the Nevada Democratic primary.

Williamson, who also ran for the Democratic nomination in 2020, not only got walloped by President Joe Biden on Tuesday, but she also suffered defeat to the “none of these candidates” option on the ballot. She announced she would end her campaign in an email to supporters.
