The Democratic National Committee will hold a virtual roll call to certify President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee prior to the party’s convention in August.

Details: Ohio’s deadline to certify a presidential nominee and get on the state’s ballot is Aug. 7. The Democratic National Convention, where the party typically certifies its nominee, is scheduled to start on Aug. 19, after the deadline. A move by Ohio Senate Republicans to change the deadline to allow Biden to be certified was rejected by the Ohio Senate Democrats because the bill also included a ban on foreign contributions in ballot initiatives. The exact date of the roll call is not yet known.

Key Quotes: DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement, “Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states, and Ohio Republicans agree. But when the time has come for action, they have failed to act every time, so Democrats will land this plane on our own.” Harrison added, “Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy through incompetence or partisan tricks and that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice.”

How The Media Covered It: Fox News (Right bias) determined that the virtual roll call will most likely “take away from the fanfare and celebration” at the convention. ABC News (Lean Left bias) agreed, stating that it will “take a significant moment away from Biden and the Democratic party.”

The Democratic National Committee will move to conduct virtual proceedings to certify President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party nominees before Ohio's Aug. 7 ballot certification deadline, and before their in-person convention beginning Aug. 19, the party confirmed to ABC News on Tuesday.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is planning to virtually nominate President Biden ahead of the party’s convention after the Ohio state Legislature deadlocked on a fix last week to get the president on the ballot in November.

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison announced Democrats would be holding a virtual roll call to ensure Biden gets on the ballot in all 50 states — an announcement made on the same day Ohio state lawmakers returned to the Capitol for a special session to solve Biden’s ballot access issue.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is preparing to nominate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party nominees via virtual proceedings before Ohio’s Aug. 7 deadline, and before its in-person convention this summer in Chicago.

Ohio requires its parties to certify presidential candidates at least 90 days before Election Day. The DNC won't certify Biden until its convention, which is scheduled for Aug. 19 – 75 days before the election.
