Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, her chosen vice presidential candidate for the 2024 race, at a rally in Philadelphia Tuesday night.

The Details: The rally featured speakers including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, the runner-up in Harris' VP vetting, before Harris and Walz took the stage to energetic applause. The pair touted the long list of Democratic policy priorities implemented under Walz' governorship, his time in the National Guard, and his stint as a high school teacher and championship-winning football coach.

How the Media Covered It: Several highly quotable lines from Walz were prominently featured in media on the left, like Associated Press (Lean Left bias) and CBS (Lean Left). The Hill (Center) noted that the rally's attendance of roughly 10,000 was the "largest audience this cycle for either Harris or President Biden when he was a candidate." Left and center media remarked on Walz' willingness to attack the Republican ticket from all angles. Right media covered the rally somewhat less prominently and elevated a speech by Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) in Philadelphia on the same day. Fox News (Right) led its story with Walz' low national name recognition.

PHILADELPHIA — Democrat Gov. Tim Walz is not a household name outside his home state of Minnesota.

So, in the hours after Vice President Harris named the former longtime congressman and two-term governor as her running mate on the Democratic Party's 2024 ticket, the Harris campaign instantly began working to showcase Walz.

His biography was blasted out on social media platforms, including Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, and the Harris campaign spotlighted the governor in a new video.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) made his debut on Tuesday as Vice President Harris’s running mate during a raucous rally in Philadelphia, where he took on former President Trump and sought to sustain the enthusiasm Democrats have built over the past two weeks.

Harris and Walz spoke in front of a crowd of roughly 10,000 people, the largest audience this cycle for either Harris or President Biden when he was a candidate.

Harris introduces her running mate, "Coach Walz," at an energetic Philly rally At an energetic rally in Philadelphia, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris introduced her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, ticking through his varied resume and often calling him “Coach Walz” because of his tenure as a successful high school football coach. "In 91 days,” Harris said, “the nation will know Coach Walz by another name: vice president of the United States." The current vice president cited Walz's time as a National Guardsman and teacher, and some of his...
