On Monday, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) sent a video message to Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) from former Rep. George Santos (R-NY). The message was meant to provoke Menendez and echoes Fetterman's past calls for Menendez to resign over his indictment on corruption charges.
Key Details: The video, which Fetterman paid for with campaign funds, appeared on Cameo, a platform where celebrities can record messages for anyone willing to pay. Santos is selling his personal videos for $200 each.
Key Quote: A smiling and gleeful Santos said in the cameo: "Hey Bobby, look, I don’t think I need to tell you, but these people that want to make you get in trouble and want to kick you out and make you run away — you make them put up or shut up."
For Context: Menendez is facing federal criminal charges for acting as an unregistered foreign agent for the Egyptian government. Santos was expelled from Congress last week after being accused of misusing campaign funds.
How the Media Covered it: Some right-rated sources noted that Santos defended Menendez during his short time in Congress. Some left-rated sources focused more on Fetterman's repeated calls for Menendez to resign. Update 12/7 1:31p.m. ET: Previous version misspelled Santos' name. The error has been corrected.
