Ohio police released bodycam footage from the shooting of a pregnant black woman on August 24.

For Context: The victim, 21-year-old Ta’Kiya Young, was suspected of shoplifting when she was confronted by two officers from the Blendon Township Police. Both officers were placed on administrative leave after the shooting. At the discretion of the department, one has returned to work.

The Details: Officers asked Young to leave her vehicle before she began to drive towards one of the officers. A few seconds passed before the officer in front of the car fired his weapon through the windshield. The car then rolled onto the sidewalk outside the shopping center as officers ran alongside the vehicle, telling Young to stop. An officer then broke the window, revealing Young slumped to the side.

Key Quotes: Young’s family and their attorney, said it was “undeniable that Ta’Kiya’s death was not only avoidable, but also a gross misuse of power and authority.” The police said the officers haven’t “waived their rights as victims.” Brian Steel, executive vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, said, “A weapon is not just a firearm. A weapon is also a 2000-pound vehicle that somebody puts in gear and is driving at you.”

How The Media Covered It: Media across the spectrum covered the events somewhat similarly. CNN (Lean Left bias) said the driver’s vehicle moved “slowly forward.” New York Post (Lean Right bias) said the car “accelerated toward” the officer. BBC (Center bias) said the car drove in his direction.

Ohio cops released bodycam footage Friday showing an officer fatally shooting a pregnant mom of two when the suspected shoplifter refused to leave her car and accelerated toward him.

The video shows that just before Ta’Kiya Young, 21, of Columbus was shot in her black sedan outside a Kroger in Blendon Township on Aug. 24, officers repeatedly barked for her to “get out of the car!”

When Young asked why she was being told to exit her vehicle, which was in a handicap spot, she was told, “They said you stole stuff, do not leave.”

Police in Ohio have released bodycam footage showing an officer fatally shooting a pregnant black woman.

Ta'Kiya Young, 21, died on 24 August when she was shot while in her car outside a Kroger grocery store in Blendon Township, a suburb of Columbus.

Footage shows officers attempting to question her for alleged shoplifting.

One officer standing in front of her car is seen in the video released on Friday firing directly towards her as she appears to drive in his direction.

Newly released police body camera footage shows an officer firing through the windshield of a pregnant woman’s car after she was accused of shoplifting at a grocery store in a Columbus, Ohio, suburb last week.

The woman, 21-year-old Ta’kiya Young – whose death her family called a “criminal act” and “gross misuse of power and authority” after seeing the footage – was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The video shows a Blendon Township police officer approaching Young’s driver’s side window outside a Kroger in Westerville and repeatedly telling her to get out of the car.
