U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated Friday that the US will “move on” from brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia if there is no progress “within a matter of days.”
The Details: The statement followed a meeting involving US, Ukrainian, and European officials. Rubio didn’t specify whether he was discussing efforts to reach a 30-day ceasefire or full negotiations to end the war. While the Trump administration campaigned on a quick end to the war, Rubio stressed that “It’s not our war,” and “we have other priorities to focus on.”

Vance being “optimistic” about negotiations and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who stressed the difficulty of negotiations. BBC also contextualized Rubio’s remarks within an ongoing minerals deal and an investment fund for Ukraine's reconstruction. National Review News (Lean Right) reported that Trump has “handicapped Russia’s ability to fund its war” with sanctions and suggested ending the war has been a priority for Trump.
