Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a one-day Easter ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces violated the ceasefire, while Russia accused Ukraine of violating it. 

The Details: The US expressed openness to extending the ceasefire, and Ukraine maintained they would pause strikes for 30 days if Russia agreed, but the Kremlin did not take up the offer, saying Ukraine failed to observe the one-day ceasefire to begin with. 

Key Quotes: Zelensky said, “The Russian army is trying to create a general impression of a ceasefire, but in some places it is still trying to make individual attempts to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine... the Russian army has violated Putin’s ceasefire more than two thousand times.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “The [Ukrainian government] has violated the truce using American HIMARS systems. It is not a coincidence, but a pattern: during the moratorium on strikes on energy facilities, Zelensky – despite having agreed to it – was deliberately targeting civilian energy infrastructure.”

How The Media Covered It: RT (Lean Right bias) only covered the Russian perspective, while Politico (Lean Left) focused on the Ukrainian perspective, saying the violations were "in line with Moscow’s long history of violating ceasefires." 

Why The Difference?: RT is funded by the Kremlin. Politico, like many US outlets, often emphasizes a pro-Western perspective. Until recently, Politico received $8 million a year in subscription revenue from the US government.
