'Transgender Day of Visibility' Falls on Easter, Draws Conservative Ire

Republicans slam Biden for proclaiming Transgender Day of Visibility on Easter, though it’s yearly observed on March 31

Republicans are taking aim at President Joe Biden for proclaiming Easter Sunday as the Transgender Day of Visibility, though the two days only coincided this year by chance.

The Transgender Day of Visibility, which was started in 2009 as a day of awareness to celebrate the successes of transgender and gender-nonconforming people, is held annually on March 31. The date of Easter, meanwhile, changes from year to year.

But several Republicans seized on Biden’s proclamation to attack the president.

White House responds to GOP criticism as Transgender Day of Visibility falls on Easter

The White House responded Saturday to GOP criticism that the Transgender Day of Visibility, which is observed each year on March 31, falls on Easter.

Republicans criticized President Biden after he issued a Friday proclamation, recognizing March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility, as he has done for every year he has been in the Oval Office.

From the Trump campaign to the House leadership, Republicans went after Biden for mocking faith as Easter this year falls on March 31.

Trump demands Biden to issue apology over 'blasphemous' Trans Visibility Day on Easter Sunday: 'Appalling'

After President Biden sparked fury by declaring March 31 "Transgender Day of Visibility," which this year is also Easter Sunday, former President Trump called for an immediate apology to millions of Christians and Catholics.

Trump's national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, called it "appalling and insulting" that Biden "formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility.’"

Leavitt said the president's announcement is an example of the Biden administration's "years-long assault on the Christian faith."
