In a sit-down interview with Laura Ingraham of Fox News (Right bias) former President Trump said he will “probably” debate Vice President Kamala Harris, but “can also make a case for not doing it.”

The Details: Trump previously agreed to debate President Joe Biden on ABC News (Lean Left bias) on September 10. Harris’s campaign team said she would fill Biden’s place, but Trump’s team said it “would be inappropriate” to commit until Harris is the formal Democratic presidential nominee.

For Context: Last week, Trump told reporters he’s willing to debate Harris “multiple times” but is “not thrilled about ABC,” which he’s described as “fake news.” When Trump debated Biden in June, neither candidate was an official party nominee. Trump has since become the official Republican nominee, while Biden has dropped out of the race.

Key Quotes: Trump said, “The answer’s yes, I’ll probably end up debating.” Harris campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa said, “It’s clear from tonight’s question-dodging: He’s scared he’ll have to defend his running mate’s weird attacks on women or his own calls to end elections in America.”

How The Media Covered It: The Associated Press (Lean Left bias) led its coverage by saying Trump “seems to be backing away from his earlier commitment to debate Vice President Kamala Harris.” CNN (Lean Left bias) promptly included this quote from Trump: “I haven’t agreed to anything. I agreed to a debate with Joe Biden.” CNBC (Center bias) wrote that Trump “seemed to confirm” his intentions to debate Harris but “left room for ambiguity.”

Donald Trump seems to be backing away from his earlier commitment to debate Vice President Kamala Harris, questioning the value of a meetup and saying he “probably” will debate but he “can also make a case for not doing it” — prompting her campaign to say he’s “scared.”

Trump, in an interview with Fox News Channel that aired Monday night, was pressed several times about committing to debating Harris before giving a squishier answer than he had in recent days.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Monday that while he “probably” will debate Vice President Kamala Harris, he could “also make a case” for avoiding a face-to-face confrontation with his likely Democratic opponent.

Trump, in a Fox News interview that aired Monday evening, did not initially say whether he would commit to a debate with Harris. And while he ultimately seemed to confirm that he was game, his answers left room for ambiguity.

During a sit-down interview with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham, former President Donald Trump said he is leaning toward debating Vice President Kamala Harris but “can also make a case for not doing it.” When President Joe Biden stepped out of the presidential race, and Harris immediately received the support of the majority of the delegates, Trump began to question having the next debate scheduled for Sept. 10 being hosted by “fake news” ABC News. Trump said he wouldn’t commit to a debate with Harris until she becomes the Democratic nominee,...
