Former President Donald Trump announced Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate on Monday afternoon.
Who is JD Vance? Elected to his Senate seat in 2023, the 39-year-old Vance originally gained popularity with his 2016 book, "Hillbilly Elegy." He's evolved from being a Trump critic to one of his core allies in Congress.
How the Media Covered It: NBC News (Lean Left bias) said the choice "elevates a onetime fierce critic who became a zealous follower of the former president" and that Vance "brings to the ticket military experience, as well as right-wing populist views that mesh with Trump’s 'America First' sloganeering." Fox News (Right) said the choice was made "with an eye toward the future of a Republican Party dominated by former President Trump and his legions of MAGA supporters," and that Trump "will now share the ticket with one of his top supporters in the Senate and a one-time Trump critic who has transformed into a leading America First disciple."
