Democratic lawmakers announced the formation of a task force aimed at countering “Project 2025.”

What is Project 2025? Project 2025 is a policy plan developed by The Heritage Foundation (Right bias) laying out a policy framework should former President Donald Trump win the presidential election in November. The Project 2025 website states, “If we are going to rescue the country from the grip of the radical Left, we need both a governing agenda and the right people in place, ready to carry this agenda out on Day One of the next conservative Administration.” The plan reportedly includes the elimination of select federal agencies, the installment of conservative loyalists in federal agencies, and the expansion of executive powers.

Key Quotes: Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) announced the Democratic task force on Tuesday, stating, “We need a coordinated strategy to save America and stop this coup before it's too late.” Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts stated in response, “The task force launched by House Democrats only underscores the Left's fear of losing its grip on their authoritarian bureaucracy ... We will not give up and we will win.”

How the Media Covered It: Left-rated outlets are prominently covering Project 2025, while right-rated outlets are mostly ignoring it. Coverage from Newsmax (Right bias) mainly restated reporting from The Hill (Center bias), but Newsmax omitted a paragraph noting that critics of the project fear it “poses a threat to the very workings of government and democracy that have presided in Washington since the nation’s founding.”

A group of House Democrats is launching a task force to take on Project 2025, a sprawling policy roadmap for how right-wing groups envision a second Trump administration.

Why it matters: The Biden campaign and other Democrats have already seized on the Heritage Project plan for its proposed restrictions on abortion and contraception, among other culture war pushes.

Project 2025 proposes overhauling or eliminating a swath of federal agencies including the Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security and FBI, as well as making it easier to fire civil servants.

House Democrats are vowing to hit back at an effort to advance a conservative political agenda in the event former President Donald Trump wins his White House bid, The Hill is reporting.

The effort by conservatives is called Project 2025, which touches on nearly every facet of American life, the news outlet said. The policy changes proposed include the elimination of certain federal agencies, and filling positions in all departments with those attuned to conservative causes.
