Incumbent Ron DeSantis (R) expected to triumph in a test of core conservative influence in Florida.

Our friends at guides.vote have built helpful breakdowns of each 2022 Florida Gubernatorial candidate's major policy positions and stances for their 2022 campaign. View the guide here.

Democrat Charlie Crist came to his first and only debate with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ready with just one question about his opponent's political aspirations Monday night.

ā€œYou’re running for governor,ā€ Crist said, looking at DeSantis as the governor looked forward. ā€œWhy don’t you look in the eyes of the people of the state of Florida and say to them if you’re re-elected, you will serve a full four-year term as governor. Yes or no?ā€

DeSantis said nothing as four seconds ticked by and the debate hall started to fall quiet.

ā€œYes or no, Ron?ā€ Crist asked again.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist says Florida homeowners have one person to blame for soaring insurance premiums: Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Hurricane Ian exposed the instability of the state's homeowners' insurance market; six Florida property insurers became insolvent in 2022, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

An ad from Crist's campaign contrasts rates under DeSantis with what happened after Crist became governor 15 years ago.

Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist’s campaign manager exited the team less than three weeks out from the midterm election.

Campaign manager Austin Durrer is leaving to focus on a "family matter," and Sydney Throop, who previously worked on Crist's congressional campaigns, will take up the mantle, a spokesperson told Florida Politics.

Nationally, it’s still unclear what November’s midterms will bring. In Florida? Not so much. Here’s Politico:

For your radar— While Florida is still dealing with the fallout of Hurricane Ian, one new poll suggests that Republicans — including Gov. Ron DeSantis — could be on their way to a significant sweep in the November elections.

Double digits— Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy on Wednesday released survey results that showed DeSantis with a commanding 11-point lead over Democrat Charlie Crist: 52 percent to 41 percent.

From wearing campaign garb at hurricane recovery events to falsely asserting that Ian’s landfall wasn’t ā€œeven in the coneā€ three days earlier, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is taking his combative, hyper-partisan style into his first major natural disaster response since taking office and just weeks before the Nov. 8 election that would give the Republican a second term.

New polls suggest that Republicans are taking the lead in two of Florida's most highly watched races this November.

What's happening: Gov. Ron DeSantis is leading Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist 52% to 41%, with 6% of voters undecided, according to a new Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy poll.

Meanwhile, Sen. Marco Rubio is leading Democratic Rep. Val Demings 47% to 41% in the U.S. Senate race, per Mason-Dixon's polling. 10% of voters were undecided in the Senate race.

The gubernatorial debate between Gov. Ron DeSantis and former U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist has been postponed due to Hurricane Ian, with no makeup date yet scheduled.

News station WPEC News 12 had been set to host the debate, the only one scheduled between DeSantis and Crist, on Oct. 12 in Fort Pierce.

ā€œThe move to postpone the debate is meant to ensure all Floridians have an opportunity to adequately recover from the storm and watch the debate,ā€ the station wrote on its website

President Joe Biden, asked again on Thursday about his relationship with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), responded by insisting that the two are on good terms and that DeSantis had complimented his response to Hurricane Ian.

The White House said on Monday and Tuesday that the pair had not spoken, which fueled rampant speculation about the reasons why. DeSantis is a rising star in Republican politics and widely seen as a 2024 presidential contender.
