NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Republican lawmakers hit an impasse Thursday just a few days into a special session sparked by a deadly school shooting in March, leaving little certainty about what they might ultimately pass, yet all but guaranteeing it won’t be any significant gun control change. After advancing a few bills this week, the Senate quickly adjourned Thursday without taking up any more proposals, promising to come back Monday. The announcement prompted booing and jeers from the crowd of gun control advocates watching in the galleries. Meanwhile, the...

Hunter Biden’s attorneys lobbed a serious threat to get negotiations going on a plea deal when the legal scrutiny of the president’s son was becoming more intense. A lengthy article in Politico by Betsy Woodruff details the behind-the-scenes maneuvers that Hunter’s lawyers and the Justice Department made in crafting the infamous plea deal, where the younger Biden would have essentially evaded jail time for tax and gun charges that were blessedly shot down by a judge who hadn’t lost the plot. The gun charge stemmed from when the crack-cocaine-addicted Hunter bought a handgun in 2018.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked gun licenses of 122 gun dealers during the last fiscal year amid the Biden Regime’s war on the Second Amendment. ā€œWe were making $1 million a year, now it’s less than $100,000,ā€ Anthony Navarro, a gun dealer who lost his license last year after receiving three warnings for legal violations told The Wall Street Journal. ā€œThis policy is designed to be a backdoor violation of the Second Amendment.ā€ A Biden administration crackdown has reportedly resulted in hundreds of gun dealers losing...

PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — A Provo police report shows Craig Robertson, the man who was shot and killed during an FBI raid in connection with threats to President Biden, had a previous altercation where police said he was ā€œrecklessā€ with his second amendment right. In the police report obtained by ABC4, Provo police were called to Robertson’s residence in August 2018 after he allegedly threatened two Google Fiber employees with a handgun. The Google Fiber employees told the Provo Police Department they were there to connect a neighbor with service....

Days after Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a law aimed at ā€œunsafe marketing practicesā€ by firearms manufacturers and sellers, a gun rights group has filed a federal lawsuit arguing the measure is unconstitutional and should be overturned. The National Shooting Sports Foundation filed the lawsuit Monday in the Southern District of Illinois, citing both the First and Second amendments to the U.S. constitution. ā€œThe First Amendment prohibits states from punishing wide swaths of truthful speech about lawful products, even if the products are dangerous or the speech is unpopular,ā€ the lawsuit...

On Friday, the Illinois Supreme Court made the right decision to protect our streets, schools, grocery stores, parks, churches, malls, theaters and more from the scourge of gun violence and mass shootings. In a 4-3 ruling, the state’s highest court upheld the landmark Illinois law banning the sale of semiautomatic assault weapons, large-capacity ammunition magazines and so-called ā€œswitchesā€ that turn regular firearms into fully automatic weapons. It’s a significant victory, no doubt, heralded by gun safety activists, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and others.

Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee has called a special session to deal with ā€œpublic safetyā€ as Democrats in the state push for more gun control. The August 21 special session will come months after a transgender-identifying shooter killed six people at The Covenant School in Nashville, and Lee has advocated for a variation of a red flag law. In his proclamation this week, Lee said that the session would deal with issues of mental health, gun storage guidelines, human trafficking, and ā€œtemporary mental health orders of protection.ā€ ā€œAs our nation...

Two Tennessee Democrats who were expelled from the state’s GOP-controlled House over a gun control protest ― only to be reinstated days later on an interim basis ― won back their legislative seats Thursday night. The two first-term lawmakers were expelled in April after they joined demonstrators in calling for stronger gun control following a Nashville school shooting that left three children and three adults dead. Hundreds of protesters ― many of them kids ― took to the House floor on March 30 to call for an end to gun...

Some ideas are so terrible that combining them into a cocktail of awfulness makes rotten sense. So it is with gun control and qualified immunity: Why not mix impunity for violating basic rights with denial of a specific right so as to maximize the harm? At least, that's the inspiration that struck two law professors who propose qualified immunity for enforcing even overtly unconstitutional gun control measures.
