The future of the internet is becoming increasingly more mobile. Cars, remote patient monitoring devices, and smart houses all run on some form of wireless internet. Even most consumer-facing artificial intelligence applications are run through mobile apps, such as Perplexity AI and OpenAI. With more online applications going mobile, more data will need to travel over our wireless networks. We are already seeing AI's impact on 5G networks.

I have spent years covering the wireless and home broadband companies and considerable time studying and testing a variety of networks. In the age of 5G, these two worlds have intersected, and for regular users in 2025, this is a great thing that finally brings some much-needed legitimate alternatives and competition. After spending the last few months living with several different 5G home internet products, it's clear that they can compete with traditional broadband for most everyday tasks. It may not be faster than a multi-gig fiber connection, but for...

Jan 27 (Reuters) - AT&T's (T.N) fourth-quarter wireless subscriber growth surpassed expectations on Monday, fueled by strong demand for its discounted premium plans combining 5G mobile with high-speed fiber data services. Shares of the company rose about 2% in premarket trading. The U.S. telecom giant added 482,000 net monthly bill-paying wireless phone subscribers in the holiday quarter, outpacing analysts' estimated gains of 424,550, according to Visible Alpha.

Jan 24 (Reuters) - Verizon Communications (VZ.N) forecast annual free cash flow and profit below Wall Street estimates on Friday, as the U.S. telecom major spends heavily to expand high-speed internet services and attract customers in a saturating wireless market. The company has been pouring billions of dollars on the C-band spectrum, prized for its balance of speed and range, to improve its 5G offering and outpace rivals AT&T and T-Mobile. The spending is also key to hitting its goal of doubling subscribers for its fixed wireless service to as...

This article has been reviewed according to Science X's editorial process and policies . Editors have highlighted the following attributes while ensuring the content's credibility: Kyushu University researchers have successfully developed an ultra-high-speed optical modulator that can operate at more than 10 times the speed of current devices. This modulator was made thanks to a new method the team developed that allowed them to grow thin films of ferroelectric crystals on silicon substrates. Optical communication technology is the bedrock of our modern internet.

JERUSALEM, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Bezeq Telecom's (BEZQ.TA) mobile subsidiary will start selling 5G-only packages in an effort to enlist more subscribers for its 5G network, the Israeli company said on Monday. Pelephone will be the first in Israel to launch the technology, Bezeq said, adding that subscribers with devices supporting 4G only will still be able to join adapted 4G packages. "This strategic move will encourage rapid migration of customers to cutting edge cellular technology," said Pelephone CEO Ilan Sigal. The 5G package will include 1,000 gigabits of data...

This article has been reviewed according to Science X's editorial process and policies . Editors have highlighted the following attributes while ensuring the content's credibility: Researchers have developed a 3D-printed device that generates twisting light beams with orbital angular momentum (OAM), a form of rotational energy that can carry more data than regular beams. The efficient, compact and low-cost vortex beam generators could help enhance the capacity and reliability of future wireless systems.

A Temasek Holdings Pte firm’s stake sale agreement values U Mobile Sdn. at about 7.5 billion ringgit ($1.7 billion), according to people familiar with the matter, after the Malaysian phone company won a major 5G contract.

Straits Mobile Investments Pte, a subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte, which is wholly owned by Singapore state investor Temasek, is cutting its holdings after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government picked U Mobile last month to build Malaysia’s second 5G network.

There are so many great smartphones on the market that it can be easy to think that you have to spend upwards of $1,000 to get one, but that isn't necessarily the case. The world of the budget phone is ripe with options that cost less than a third of that, including the Samsung Galaxy A25. It's a phone that would normally sell for just $300, but right now Amazon has taken $50 off, dropping the price to just $250. Our Samsung Galaxy A25 5G review highlighted its capabilities including...
