The National Transportation Safety Board is looking into flight data discrepancies, potential altimeter malfunctions and a possible miscommunication with air traffic control in the midair collision of an Army helicopter and a commercial airplane last month in the deadliest U.S. air crash in almost a quarter century.

“We are looking at the possibility of there may be bad data,” NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy said at a news conference on Friday. “We have a lot of work to do till we get to that.”

The death toll for what amounted to be South Korea's most fatal plane crash in decades stands at 179 people on Monday, a day after the disaster gripped the nation already in intense political turmoil. The United States is now sending investigators to help determine what caused the Jeju Air plane to crash-land at Muan airport and slam into a concrete barrier on Sunday. Meanwhile, South Korean officials are combing through more than 600 body parts, and the stench of blood remains in the air at the crash site, the...

Russian strongman Vladimir Putin apologized to Azerbaijan on Saturday for the crash of a civilian flight carrying passengers from Baku to Grozny in Russia-controlled Chechnya.

Putin had a phone call with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev and “apologised for the tragic incident that occurred in Russian airspace and once again expressed his deep and sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured,” the Kremlin said.

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation after two planes from major commercial airlines appeared to nearly collide mid-air in an unnerving dash camera video taken by police in Syracuse, New York, this week. Although experts say the flights were not actually on a collision course, based on preliminary evidence, they were for a time flying in very close proximity — just 725 feet apart at their nearest point.

Boeing will reportedly blow through billions more dollars than expected to course correct after a series of financial hits. The company said that its bottom line is hurting as the company navigates an ongoing crisis related to the safety of its planes and its ability to manufacture them. On Thursday, May 23, Boeing announced that it took a nearly $4 billion hit during Q2 of 2024.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has opened an investigation into Boeing over concerns it may have misled investors, reported Bloomberg.

The investigation pertains specifically to comments made to investors about safety practices following an incident in January in which a panel flew off an Alaska Airlines-run 737 Max 9 plane midair because of a poorly installed door plug.

In response to a request for comment, a spokesperson for Boeing told Newsweek: "We don't have anything to add."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it plans to investigate a close call involving JetBlue and Southwest aircraft in Washington on Thursday.

JetBlue Airways told FOX Business that Flight 1554, which was flying from Washington, D.C., to Boston, had to abort its takeoff because another aircraft had attempted to cross the runway.
