The National Transportation Safety Board is looking into flight data discrepancies, potential altimeter malfunctions and a possible miscommunication with air traffic control in the midair collision of an Army helicopter and a commercial airplane last month in the deadliest U.S. air crash in almost a quarter century. 

“We are looking at the possibility of there may be bad data,” NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy said at a news conference on Friday. “We have a lot of work to do till we get to that.”

The Jeju Air plane from Bangkok attempted a belly landing at Muan International Airport after its landing gear reportedly failed to deploy.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a Southwest Airlines flight descended dangerously low while approaching Oklahoma City’s airport early Wednesday from Las Vegas.

Flight 4069 was still nine miles from Will Rogers World Airport when its low altitude triggered an automated warning to air traffic control around 12:05 a.m. local time. Air traffic control then alerted the flight’s crew, the FAA said in a statement shared with HuffPost.

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun faced bipartisan heat Tuesday as he sat for his first congressional testimony nearly six months after the door plug of a Boeing 737 Max 9 blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight in January.

Calhoun, who announced in March he was stepping down at the end of the year, sought to assure senators his company was serious about improving its safety and quality practices amid ongoing investigations by the Justice Department and federal regulators.

"Before I begin my opening remarks, I would like to speak directly to those who lost loved ones on Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302," Calhoun said in his prepared testimony before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Federal Aviation Administration chief Mike Whitaker said his agency is partly responsible for the safety problems at Boeing, admitting that it had been “too hands off” in its oversight of the troubled aircraft manufacturer.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it's opened an investigation into Boeing regarding inspections of the 787 Dreamliner that "may not have been completed."

The FAA said Monday Boeing "voluntarily informed us in April" that the plane maker may not have completed required inspections to confirm that there was adequate bonding and grounding where the wings join the carbon fiber fuselage on certain 787 jets.
