The police crackdown on peaceful student protesters continues across the country. In Illinois, police cleared an encampment at the University of Chicago. Here in New York, police forces raided a protest camp at the Fashion Institute of Technology and arrested dozens of protesters Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in Europe, police arrested more than 100 activists at the University of Amsterdam. Police also dismantled an encampment at Berlin’s Free University.

The police response to Spain’s campus protests has been relatively muted while more than 2,000 academics stand by their university students. Madrid, Spain – Huge Palestinian flags are hanging on campuses across Spain as thousands of students protest against Israel’s war in Gaza. Some classes have stopped this week as students demonstrate in Barcelona, Valencia, the Basque Country and Madrid.

Dutch riot police ended a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel demonstration at an Amsterdam university early on Tuesday, arresting some 125 people in sometimes violent clashes, authorities says. In messages posted overnight on social media platform X, police said they had to act to stop the event and dismantle tents that been set up by protesters, who used violence against police at the site. ā€œThe police’s input was necessary to restore order. An antisemitic message was projected onto the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam last week, the museum revealed Friday.

The message ā€œAnn Frank [sic], inventor of the ballpoint penā€ appeared Monday on the outside face of the building where Anne Frank and her family hid during World War II, according to a statement from the Anne Frank House.

ā€œReprehensible. There is no place for anti-Semitism in our country; we can never and should never accept this,ā€ Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte tweeted Friday.
