ATLANTA — Rookie reliever Justin Slaten had been just about lights-out for the Red Sox to start the season, allowing just two earned runs in the first 19 innings of his big league career. On Wednesday, after repeated failures by the Red Sox offense to capitalize on threats, Slaten’s worst inning of the year doomed Boston late. Facing the top of a potent Braves lineup, Slaten allowed two runs and three hits in the eighth inning as Atlanta broke the tie and beat the Red Sox, 4-2. Boston’s offense went...

ATLANTA — Starting Wednesday, the Red Sox will inch closer to getting their starting rotation back to full strength. Righty Nick Pivetta will be activated off the injured list to start Wednesday’s series finale against the Braves, marking the first reinforcement for a Sox rotation that has been operating with just two of its five regular starters (Kutter Crawford and Tanner Houck) since Brayan Bello joined Pivetta and Garrett Whitlock on the shelf April 24. Pivetta made just two starts, with his last coming April 2 before he hit the...

Brayan Bello didn’t get the results he wanted in his rehab start at Hadlock Field on Tuesday night. The right-hander threw 2 2/3 innings for the Portland Sea Dogs against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, allowing three runs, two earned, with three hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. But as he eyes a return to the Boston Red Sox rotation after going on the injured list April 24 with right lat tightness, Bello pitched pain free, and feels ready to go for the Red Sox on Sunday against the Washington Nationals....

Garcia, who works for an air conditioning manufacturer, pops up weekly at the East Atlanta and Piedmont Park farmers markets with appearances at Eventide Brewing in Grant Park. While he doesn’t have formal culinary training, he’s continued to make his family’s pernil for holidays and gatherings. Garcia looked into opening his own business more than a decade ago when food trucks became omnipresent in the city. He was attending seminars on buying a truck and developing a business plan when his mother suffered a stroke that left her in a...

PULLMAN — Washington State has landed its first transfer from somewhere other than Eastern Washington this off-season. Quinnipiac transfer Rihard Vavers announced his commitment to WSU on Tuesday, giving the Cougars a 6-foot-7 wing who averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game as a freshman last season. Vavers, a native of Latvia, averaged 18 minutes per game for a Quinnipiac team that finished the season 24-10, ending with a first-round loss in the College Basketball Invitational. He shot a shade under 40% from the floor, though most of his...

(AP Photo/John Bazemore) The Atlanta Braves lost another reliever to an injury on Tuesday when they placed left-hander Tyler Matzek on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation. The Braves place right-hander Pierce Johnson on the 15-day IL on Sunday with right elbow inflammation. The move with Matzek came after he allowed three runs while recording only two outs in Saturday night’s 11-2...

During a trip to Southfield, Michigan, notorious food critic Keith Lee gave a harsh review of a restaurant called Lillie Bell’s Cuisine. In a clip that has now gone viral, Lee literally gagged on the greens he tried. Lee stated that he had gotten a DM requesting he try out Lillie Bell’s Cuisine. He decided to go and spent around $90. Lee stated that the hour and a half wait was “extensive.” He wound up buying three plates for his family consisting of turkey chops, chicken wings, macaroni and cheese,...

LOS ANGELES — Caitlin Clark's first WNBA game in Los Angeles is being moved to a bigger stage. The Los Angeles Sparks said Tuesday that their home game against Clark and the Indiana Fever on May 24 is being moved from Walter Pyramid on the Long Beach State campus to Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. Two other Sparks home games — May 26 against Dallas and June 5 against Minnesota — are also moving to Crypto.com Arena. That's where the Sparks usually play all their games and it seats...

The National Labor Relations Board on Monday said Apple illegally interrogated staff about union sympathies in 2021. According to the ruling, Apple management at the company’s World Trade Center store in New York City violated federal labor law by questioning employees about their positions on unionization and confiscating pro-union fliers in break rooms. Monday’s decision upholds the ruling of an administrative court last year. The board ordered Apple to cease any questioning of employees’ positions on unionization and to let employees place union information in communal spaces.
