The 21 crew members stuck on the ship that caused the deadly Baltimore bridge collapse are reportedly having a “tough” time after not being able to leave the vessel for 55 days.

The crew — all from India, except for one man from Sri Lanka — has been forced to stay onboard since the March 26 disaster, which brought down the Francis Scott Key Bridge and killed six construction workers.

The body of the last missing victim killed in the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore was recovered on Tuesday, officials said. JosĂ© Mynor LĂłpez, 37, was identified as the final victim to be located in the wake of the March 26 disaster. He and five other members of a work crew filling potholes on the bridge were killed when the Dali container ship collided with one of the bridge’s support columns, triggering the collapse. “With heavy hearts, today marks a significant milestone in our recovery efforts and providing...

Judge Robert F. “Bob” Fischer, who retired from the Appellate Court of Maryland, died of complications from Parkinson’s disease April 16 at the Pineapple House at Sapphire Lakes, a Naples, Florida, assisted living facility. The former Ellicott City and Grasonville resident was 92. “I first met Bob in the fall of 1994 when I joined the court, and I must be his No. 1 fan,” said U.S. District Court Judge Ellen L. Hollander. “He commanded love and affection from the bench and the bar,” she said. “He was warm, humble,...

Several incumbent members of the Baltimore City Council are facing formidable challenges this cycle while other council hopefuls are duking it out for two open seats. Those open seats are the only two guaranteed to be represented by a newcomer next year, a stark difference from four years ago, when nearly a third of the 15-person council turned over. Still, only two incumbent members of the council are running unopposed, while the majority of members are facing at least one challenger. The outcome of the primary often determines the winners...

You could always tell Joseph Barranco was nearby if you were within a 50-yard radius of him, his family members joked. With a thick, loud, Italian-Baltimorean accent and a knack for talking to strangers, the Loch Raven native “had a presence,” his niece’s husband, William Moore, said. That’s why he loved selling ice cream from a truck, and part of why he started handing out rosaries to the people he met later in life. He simply liked people. “He had so much love in his heart,” his niece, Maria Moore,...

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said that authorities will continue the work of fully reopening the channel. Salvage teams have recovered the body of a sixth construction worker, believed to be the last victim who went missing after the March 26 collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The victim was identified as 37-year-old Jose Mynor Lopez of Baltimore, Maryland. His body was found on May 7 at the scene of the bridge’s collapse, according to the Key Bridge Response Unified Command. The Maryland State Police, along with an...

Powerful tornadoes and storms swept through southwestern Michigan Tuesday evening, destroying or damaging homes and businesses and injuring several residents – and millions more from northeast Texas to the Carolinas face at least a slight risk of severe weather Wednesday. At least a dozen people were injured at a mobile home park in Pavilion Township following a tornado Tuesday, according to a county official. The township is located in Kalamazoo County, where 15 to 20 people had minor injuries and were transported to two area hospitals, according to the county’s...

Cult filmmaker John Waters is on the mend after a car accident in Maryland led to a brief hospitalization this week. “Since it hurts when I laugh I will have no witty answer about being in a car accident that no one has said was my fault,” Waters, 78, wrote in a statement on Tuesday. “Hope you understand. I’m released from the hospital and all is OK.” The accident occurred on Monday in Timonium, just north of Waters’ native Baltimore, when a 2012 Chevrolet cargo van whose driver ran a...

There was only one topic on the agenda for Tuesday night’s mayoral forum hosted by community group BUILD and it was one of Baltimore’s most pressing: housing. Before a crowd of hundreds gathered in the gymnasium at St. Frances Academy, the leading candidates for Baltimore’s top office outlined their plans to address the city’s vacancy crisis. A persistent problem in Baltimore, thousands of vacant homes have sat empty for years, attracting crime, diminishing property values and lowering the quality of life for longtime city residents. “Many, many times you’ve heard...
