Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) hosted a campaign event Saturday in the Bronx, New York, with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), just three days before his primary election.

Bowman, a member of the progressive “Squad” in the House of Representatives, is facing a tough primary challenge from Westchester County Executive George Latimer. RealClearPolitics polling data from earlier this month showed the incumbent trailing by 17 percentage points.

Eighty-two-year-old liberal U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont announced Monday that he is running for re-election, saying American democracy is in question during difficult times for the country and the world.

Sanders, seeking a fourth Senate term, is an independent. He was a Democratic congressman for 16 years and still caucuses with the Democrats.

In an announcement video, he said that in many ways the 2024 election “is the most consequential election in our lifetimes.”

Police are searching for a suspect in what appears to have been an attempted arson at the Burlington, Vermont office of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). At around 10:45 a.m. on Friday, a man entered Sanders’ office before spraying an “apparent accelerant” on an entrance door, Burlington police said in a statement. A fire broke out outside Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Burlington, Vt., office on Friday, and police suspect an arsonist may be to blame. BURLINGTON — A former Vermont State Police trooper received a probationary sentence and was ordered to take part in a restorative justice program Friday after pleading guilty to five criminal charges related to his stealing from an evidence room while still on the force. Giancarlo DiGenova, 45, entered guilty pleas in Chittenden County Superior criminal court in Burlington to a felony grand larceny charge and misdemeanor counts of petty larceny, providing false information to police, neglect of duty and making a false statement. “This is not a radical idea,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told Congress this morning. The chairman of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions is calling for the legislative branch to pick up an issue dropped nearly 70 years ago:  changing the workweek to 32 hours without docking employee pay, or in other words, a four-day week.

Sanders spoke of successes in his opening statement that other countries have had in implementing shortened work weeks, like, of course, France, but also in specific companies across the nation.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) wants Americans to follow in the footsteps of some lawmakers in Congress and cut back on their working hours while getting the same pay.

The self-described “Democratic socialist” passionately advocated for a 32-hour workweek as the national standard while chairing a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee hearing Thursday.

“American workers are now over 400% more productive than they were in the 1940s,” noted Sanders, 82.
