After calls for gun safety, Tennessee votes to arm teachers In March 2023, an assailant shot and killed three students and three staff members at the Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school in Nashville. The shooting prompted calls for gun safety legislation. Thousands of people protested outside the Tennessee Capitol calling for universal background checks, safe gun storage laws and accountability for the gun industry. At the time, it seemed like there was bipartisan support for some type of gun control bill. Republican Gov. Bill Lee urged lawmakers to...

Tennessee lawmakers have sent a "blended sentencing" bill to Gov. Bill Lee's desk that will crack down on lenient punishments for the worst of the worst juvenile offenders by handing them adult punishments after they age out of the juvenile system. Under current law, the juvenile justice system loses jurisdiction over a young offender after his or her 19th birthday. The blended sentencing bill gives serious offenders a maximum of three to five additional years in adult prison if they meet certain negative criteria after aging out. "If they're 17...

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed a bill on Thursday that requires local law enforcement agencies to report illegal migrants to federal authorities, the reported. While other Democratic-run cities and states around the country are choosing to continue implementing so-called "sanctuary" policies that prohibit local and state police from coordinating with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Tennessee has adopted a new measure that would mandate communication with federal agencies.

Dennis Quaid sees artificial intelligence as a "great tool," but doesn’t think humans will lose out at the end of the day. "I think it's actually going to be a great tool eventually," Quaid told Fox News Digital. "AI is not very good with human emotion, nor will I think it ever will be. I mean that's what actors bring to it," he continued. 'REAGAN' STAR DENNIS QUAID HAS NO REGRETS DESPITE TURNING DOWN SEVERAL MASSIVE HOLLYWOOD HITS Quaid noted, "I think there's questions to be asked and stuff like...

Gov. Bill Lee called Tuesday for a new Tennessee law to help keep guns out of the hands of people deemed at risk of hurting themselves or others, his first full embrace of a gun reform measure in one of the nation’s most gun-friendly states.

Lee said that he’s asked legislative leaders to create and pass new ā€œorder of protectionā€ legislation that strengthens existing law designed to protect domestic violence victims. He wants the GOP-controlled General Assembly to deliver a broader bill to his desk in the next month, before adjourning for the year.

Tennessee on Thursday became the first state to enact a law explicitly targeting drag shows, while also joining a growing list of GOP-led states to ban gender-affirming health care for transgender youth.

The drag show provision criminalizes performances that take place in public or where they could be seen by children.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed both measures into law on Thursday without comment. His office did not respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

Tennessee became the first state on Thursday to enact a drag ban, barring performances from the public eye or where there are minors present.

Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed HB 9 into law just days after a high school yearbook photo surfaced of him appearing in drag ā€” in a wig and cheerleader skirt — as part of a powderpuff football game. He has not confirmed or denied his appearance in the photo.

Multiple media outlets are attempting to suggest Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is guilty of hypocrisy over a photo from his 1977 high school yearbook.

Lee is set to sign a bill that would outlaw drag shows from certain public areas that can be exposed to children, making a first offense a misdemeanor and the second offense a felony.

But a photo from the 1977 Franklin High yearbook surfaced on social media showing Lee wearing a wig, cheerleader uniform and a pearl necklace alongside girls wearing men’s suits.
