Rats don’t always have the best reputations, but one named Ronin with a super sense of smell is working to change that.

Ronin and his landmine-sniffing rat pack are making a name for rodents everywhere by saving innocent civilians from hidden explosives.

The African giant pouched rat recently set a new world record for the most landmines detected by a rat. Between August 2021 and February 2025, Ronin uncovered 109 landmines and 15 other pieces of unexploded ordnance in a region close to Siem Reap in Cambodia, according to Guinness World Records.

Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley left some words of encouragement for the Israeli Defense Forces on a rocket shell on Monday during a visit to the Israel-Gaza border. 

“Finish them! America [loves] Israel always,” the former United Nations ambassador and South Carolina governor wrote on the 155 mm high explosive projectile. 

The image of Haley signing the munition was shared on social media Tuesday by Danny Danon, a Likud member of the Knesset, who accompanied Haley on her trip.

President Biden paused an arms shipment to Israel last week to prevent the U.S.-made weapons from being used in a long-threatened assault on the city of Rafah, administration officials said on Tuesday night, a sign of the growing rift between the United States and Israel over the conduct of the war.

The US last week paused a bomb shipment for Israel over concerns it was going ahead with a major ground operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, a senior US administration official said.

The shipment consisted of 1,800 2,000lb (907kg) bombs and 1,700 500lb bombs, the official told the BBC.

Israel has not "fully addressed" US concerns over humanitarian needs of civilians in Rafah, the official said.
