What happened: The Axios affiliate in Charlotte, N.C., ran an Instagram ad urging its followers to "Celebrate the season and spread some holiday cheer" with Bud Light, the controversial beer brand best known for its partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Anheuser-Busch saw better performance in Q3 of 2023 despite still struggling in the U.S. after controversy surrounding Bud Light’s brief partnership with a transgender influencer.

The company reported revenue growth of 5%, more than was previously forecasted. Growth in the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific helped grow revenue even as the brand experienced weaker sales in the U.S.

Bill Gates still has faith in Bud Light’s parent company—even though the low-cost beer has lost pole position in the industry.

Bud Light’s advertising campaign in April, with the transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney—which included sending her a personalized can to mark 365 days since her transition—became a lightning rod in the US culture wars. In the following months, a right-wing backlash sent sales of Bud Light down, sinking the stock of its parent company Anheuser Busch (AB InBev).

The Washington Commanders football team announced a partnership with Anheuser-Busch on Thursday, prompting widespread backlash from many on social media.

"As the 2023 NFL season kicks off, the Washington Commanders and Anheuser-Busch are proud to announce their new multi-year partnership. As part of the deal, Anheuser-Busch will become the Official Beer Sponsor of the Washington Commanders," the Washington Commanders said in a press release.

Bud Light sales might never fully regain the ground they have lost to competitors. That doesn’t mean Anheuser-Busch InBev BUD 0.55%increase; green up pointing triangle, and its stock, can’t ultimately recover from the fracas.

Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney says she felt abandoned by Bud Light after facing “more bullying and transphobia than I could have ever imagined” over her partnership with the beer giant.

In a video posted Thursday to Instagram and TikTok, she said she “was waiting for the brand to reach out to me. But they never did.” She said she should have spoken out sooner but was afraid and hoped things would get better — but they didn’t.

Dylan Mulvaney on Thursday blasted Bud Light for giving “customers permission to be as transphobic and as hateful as they want” by abandoning the trans influencer following backlash over the disastrous tie-up.

The social media star finally broke her silence with an emotional Instagram video to her 1.8 million followers, tearfully revealing that she has been “ridiculed in public” and has “felt a loneliness that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”

Bud Light rolled out a new summer-themed ad in hopes of getting back into the good graces of beer drinkers, but the effort fell short for many Twitter users still smarting over the branding partnership with controversial transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

The ad, which is musically set to the 1979 hit “Good Times” by Chic, shows a group of people using ice cold cans of Bud Light to cool off from the intense summer heat in an outdoor setting.
