President Biden strongly condemned racist conspiracy theories in a speech Tuesday after visiting Tops Friendly Markets grocery store, the site of a mass shooting in Buffalo, N.Y., where 10 people were killed in an alleged hate crime over the weekend.

Mr. Biden choked back tears as he named the victims of the shooting. “In America, evil will not win, I promise you; hate will not prevail, and white supremacy will not have the last word,” he said.

President Joe Biden went to a city in New York on May 17, visiting where 10 people were gunned down over the weekend.

Biden, joined by First Lady Jill Biden, went to the Tops Market Memorial before meeting with families of those who were killed, law enforcement officers, and others at the Delavan Grider Community Center.

In a speech after the meeting, the president described the final moments of some of the dead, including Celestine Chaney, 65, a brain cancer survivor who went to Tops to buy strawberries to make her favorite shortcake.

President Biden on Tuesday issued a forceful condemnation of the "hateful and perverse ideology" that he warned has seeped into the mainstream, calling the white supremacist views espoused by the suspected gunman who killed 10 people and wounded three more in a racially motivated massacre in Buffalo, New York, a "poison."

In remarks to elected officials, first responders and the victims' families, Mr. Biden said the nation must not remain silent in the face of racist conspiracy theories, as doing so is "complicity."

“A white 18-year-old wearing military gear and livestreaming with a helmet camera opened fire with a rifle at a supermarket in Buffalo, killing 10 people and wounding three others Saturday in what authorities described as ‘racially motivated violent extremism.’” (AP News(

Many on all sides argue that the gunman’s history should have prompted additional scrutiny from authorities.

Will Tucker Carlson face any consequences?

Just two days after a racist right-wing teenager spouting the Fox News host’s beloved “great replacement” theory—that Democrats and “elites” are working to replace white Americans with immigrants of color, echoed by Carlson on his show at least 400 times—murdered at least 10 people in Buffalo, N.Y., Carlson’s employer is facing its annual “upfronts” meeting to convince media buyers to place ads with Fox, including on Carlson’s show.

America on Monday was picking up the pieces from a weekend of gun violence that – outside the cost of lives – has refocused the country’s leadership on the toxic interplay of political ideology and easy access to handguns and battlefield weapons.

Scrutiny of Republicans who embrace ‘great replacement theory’ after Buffalo massacre

Inside a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, a white man with a history of antisemitic internet posts gunned down 11 worshipers, blaming Jews for allowing immigrant “invaders” into the United States.

The next year, another white man, angry over what he called “the Hispanic invasion of Texas,” opened fire on shoppers at an El Paso Walmart, leaving 23 people dead, and later telling the police he had sought to kill Mexicans.

The 18-year-old man accused of storming a Buffalo, New York, supermarket Saturday and killing 10 and injuring three others planned to continue his bloody rampage down the street before he was stopped, police said.

Suspect Payton Gendron livestreamed the moment he opened fire in the parking lot of Tops Friendly Market at around 2:30 p.m. and continued shooting inside the store while dressed in tactical gear, police said. He was ultimately arrested at the scene.
